The dismal meaning behind this is not that films have less older women in them but that films have become such juvenile ”content”-pandering trash that they lack any of the prestige they used to have.

    2. I think the headline is dishonest in the sense that the study is only analysing the top 100 highest-grossing films. So yeah, makes sense that a lot of the big actiony adventure blockbusters are not starring women in their 60s. Still think there are a great deal of indie films that were not taken into account here

In fairness, that’s a pretty large amount of people that fall under the male named Chris or talking animal piece of the pie

that’s a pretty sensationalist headline. would love to see the “study” methodology (if there is one).

    5. The grandma from Bluey is named Chris and she’s a talking dog; make a movie starring her and we won’t have a problem.

    6. Well. I don’t know. One of the movies made with an older woman in it was called Book Club: The Next Chapter……..I’m sorry but no one I know, including older woman want to go be extremely bored. On the other hand, The Substance was super original and brought a ton of people to watch. I just feel like this is arbitrary. No one is represented equally in movies but everyone wants their own group to be represented better because they are in it.
This just seems like we are all digging too deep into what it all means. I think it’s more simple than that. People go to the movies to escape into a story for a while. Do the majority want to go escape into a story about retired woman reading books? Not really.

I said this in that thread the other day where Julianne Moore announced to the world that she doesn’t want to do any more action flicks and everyone got mad at me

a sensible study might be: in movies which star someone over 69, what is the male/female ratio?

a strangely focused headline is: in starring roles in all films under consideration, is the number of chrises of any age higher than the number of women over 60?
