That is ridiculous to expect from an assistant. Like so stupid.

“Your boss is a lifelong drug addict, the world’s best doctors can’t stop him from doing drugs. But we need you to stop him. Never mind that you’re risking your job every time you do it. And that drug addicts in relapse will do anything to get drugs. And that your boss is one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in Hollywood who can destroy your life if you anger him.”

Is this being presented as a reasonable expectation of an employee? Because wtf.

nobody can prevent someone who wants to abuse drugs from doing drugs unless you allow that person to literally tie them down

As someone who lost a relative to an OD, I understand the instinct to blame others. But these people are blaming everyone but the person who was ultimately responsible.

You can’t pin that on the assistant. If he wanted to get high his employees wasn’t going to stop him. Power imbalance there, he’d just bin him if it got too much

I get that they’re grieving parents but this seems really misplaced. Also Perry tried to place the blame for his addiction at his parents door a bunch of times, as well, so it really seems like the blame is everywhere but him

Why are all these articles acting like Perry was a newborn baby with no control over his life? It sure seemed like he was determined to get drugs whether someone was helping him or not.

So was the assistant supposed to be a addiction counselor / sober companion? If not, then why is the assistant hired by Matthew Perry expected to do it?

You can fairly argue that the assistant administrating the drugs is a criminal action, but they have no responsibility in ensuring Perry’s sobriety.

Glad this thread is calling BS on that narrative. It’s not another persons job to make sure another grown man isn’t doing drugs or harming themselves. Admit him to the hospital if he needs monitoring, not an underpaid assistant.

    10. I don’t like that approach at all! Honestly, that’s not fair to the assistant!

    11. Perry would have been fine if he hadn’t inexplicably decided to get in the hot tub while alone. He knew all about the ‘K Hole’. That’s practically suicide. Whether the assistant injected him or not, Perry is responsible for his own death.

    12. This shit is mad crazy how it’s just everyone’s fault. Bro it took his death for them to track down the dealer. The head lines for this topic is ass.

Nobody should put it on someone to keep an addict sober. The addict had to do it.

He didn’t overdose he driwned. Don’t take ketamine alone in hot tub that’s common fucking sense

I watched this episode of Hollywood Demons. And the next episode about 16 and Pregnant. One of the many takeaways was the Dr. Drew is exploitative.

    16. And I’m sure Matthew had nothing to do with that, and he definitely didn’t control this guys livelihood.

The number one rule with drink/substance use for me is STAY AWAY FROM WATER!!!!!!

    18. seriously I get wanting to find a reason

But Perry was a grown man, nobody forced him into anything

    19. FreshLuck9739 on

This was Matthew’s fault. Rich people can never take responsibility for anything. Look at Trump. Always the victim.

I work in elder care case management and we have alcoholic clients whose families ask us to restrict them from alcohol. We can’t do that as adults are legally able to make those decisions themselves. We don’t have the authority to make decisions for them without their consent. Similarly, this assistant can’t restrict or control another capable adult from doing anything, period. Addicts will always find a way anyway.
