    Spotify introduces ‘Reserved Tickets’ for fans of artists with Spotify Premium in the US.

      Essentially, Spotify holds 2 tickets for you if your listening activity is determined to be legitimate and also part of the top listeners. You will be able to buy the tickets at face value instead of resale prices.

      We’ll see if this works. It’s not hard to create a bot that has the listening habits of a “super fan”. The trick is to tie this to premium accounts…the ten bucks a month should make this economically un-viable for resellers (hopefully). Ultimately, the best way of determining if someone is a real fan, is looking at their behavior, and listening is one of the ways.

      So I think it’s a great idea. But we’ll see.

      We also have to see how Live Nation interacts with this. This product removes to some extent TM’s control of the infrastructure of ticketing. If you’re getting your ticket through Spot… all you’re using TM for is ticket validation at the venue.

      100% chance that the benefits of this program will be quite slim. It’s not so different from artist, venue, or credit card presale.

      I think the success of this promotion will depend entirely on the number of users who get the offer.

      But more importantly, this is so bad for equity in an industry that’s already absolutely plagued by profit-seeking fuckery at every turn. I will absolutely look down on artists who participate in the program.

      this lowkey bothers me because it’s another way for spotify to bait more money into people subscribing and i use apple music and other people enjoy physical media or sail the seven seas. great strat on spotify’s part bc it will definitely get them more subs and engagement🫩

      People are going to figure out a way to make their fake listening activity seem legit and trick the system, no way this is going to work. May even be worse than what we have now if it’s essentially going to reserve tickets for scalpers

      I will definitely have tickets reserved for Las Ketchup, Deteresa and Fillas de Cassandra.

      Spotify regularly tells me I’m in the top 1% of listeners for those artists.

      I hate the state of the music business. This is just a way to get fans to mass stream records while they sleep, even more than some already do
