Hayden Panettiere on why she chose to leave out some names in her new memoir: “They’re people I could run into again. I didn’t want to put myself in that position. Things happened a long time ago, but it was to protect me and my company from being sued by some very pissed-off famous people.”
thats why the “name em” shit is not cute.. like who the fk is gonna protect you? the me too days are long gone 🙁

No surprise. We all see what happens to women who speak out against rich and powerful men. DARVO to the max.

The great thing about writing a memoir is that it very specifically isn’t an autobiography. Biographies, auto or not, have to be factual and have sources.
A memoir is called that because it is how the author remembers the events. That frees it from the burden of proof. If brought to court for defamation, “that is how I remember it.” is defensive enough.

being sued and threatened for the rest of your life is a pretty obvious reason why victims never name names, especially if the perpetrator is rich and powerful.
at least theyre brave enough to share, let’s not push them for more details

The thing about naming names is that people demand it because they want to pretend it’s a problem with certain individuals, not a more widespread societal problem where we let certain people get away with being heinous. The individuals are one part of the problem, but the permissive culture which permeates more than just that one encounter is by far the biggest problem.
Rich people, and just even regular men quite frankly, get away with a lot because we live in a patriarchal, capitalist world. We need to change those dynamics, not just go after the individuals who get caught (though we should obviously do that too)

That industry is very litigious.

Are we done berating her now? Collectively, can we agree?
