“It’s sometimes no fun when one of your favorite actors loses weight. You have an idea of what they were like when you grew attached to them, and it made them endear themselves to you,” she told the publication. “Of course, it’s never a joy to be scrutinized, but also I truly understand it, as someone who consumes pop culture.”
Kaling defended her weight loss, explaining she needed to get in shape in order to “live at least 20 more years” for her children.
“Do I wake up every day being like, ‘I look amazing and I’m so gorgeous’? No, unsurprisingly, but I truly feel so healthy,” Kaling said. “When I was younger, I would want to lose weight because of vanity reasons. Now I want to lose weight or have lost weight because I want to stave off things like diabetes. I had it on both sides of my family, and trying to avoid those kinds of things will, I think, help longevity for me, and that’s my goal.”

It’s rarely about the weight loss or the plastic surgery. It’s that they think we’re stupid.
No, you don’t have wrinkle-free face at 50 and you didn’t just discover healthy eating at the exact time semaglutides came around.
Dolly Parton or Cher never deny their plastic surgery and I don’t see anyone mentioning it. But when celebs say their secret is olive oil and running after a toddler, peope are going to give them the side-eye.
If they came out and said, “the food noise was a burden, now I’m happy I don’t have brainfog over food”, I’d be rooting for them.
Being underweight is also bad for health
Weight loss and thinness do not automatically = healthy, especially if you’re not going about it in healthy ways. That said, women really can’t win. If they’re not rail thin, they’re criticized; if they lose weight, they’re criticized.
one of the problems for female celebrities with weight loss is for chubbier celebs that the weight that they maybe hated or that was ruining their health is sometimes an essential part of their look and brand. It’s a bit like the actress from dirty dancing who got a nose job and it ruined her career. A lot of celebs who drastically change their look after getting famous are inevitably going to risk having a different/negative reception. This applies a bit more to eg meghan trainor than mindy who is more behind the camera now, but I do think a lot of chubbier celebs are going to encounter it as a challenge even beyond the baggage that people have about weight and weight loss.
She comes across as insincere here and I think that’s more the issue.
I don’t care about celebs losing weight but a celeb saying your “favorite actors” when referencing themselves as part of that group does make me cringe just a little.
is our favorite actor in the room?
The condescension of it is what makes me mad.
💁🏻♀️ Just eat fish and go for hikes! Sorry you’re upset that I’m super fucking skinny and you’re not, I just love my children more than you do! 💁🏻♀️
Get absolutely pickled, idiot.
Women are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
