    1. I honestly feel bad for the guy. GoT was his life during his most formative years and by the time he became the show’s de facto protagonist, the quality of GoT took a nosedive.

Now he has no choice but to be associated with the legendarily bad ending.

      >The season 8 thing, guys, I feel very protective of it still. And the reason is, cause I mean, I guess you all saw it from the outside, whereas I saw it from the inside. So I knew, I know how much care and how much love and how much work and how much life went into making it, and the conversations that would have happened and the arguments around the table about what way to go, and what thing to do. It’s not a small process. It’s an incredibly complex and lengthy and intricate process. And I feel that the best people to be able to do that were the people who gave us the first seven seasons, that brought it to TV, that brought George’s thing and brought it to TV. And so my feeling about it is, there may have been mistakes, as we can all decide whether we liked it or not, and what we liked about it, what we didn’t. But there’s no doubt in my head that what they did was the right thing because they’re the people who brought it to us. And I kind of stand by that. Like, I feel very defensive of it as a show and as a season. And I think I always will, actually.

A lot of words to not say much

This poor prick is going to be answering questions about the ending of this show for the rest of his life.

    4. If you read the shit they went through filming it yeah no wonder. The cast was EXHAUSTED by the end of it.Season 8’s music, effects look brilliant. Alot of people were going all out for it.

      Just not the writers.

It’s not his fault S8 was bad. I hope he can someday live without that shadow over him but it’s unlikely.

He’s taking it too personal. It’s not his fault the writing sucked at the end. No one (hopefully) is blaming him personally for the direction the show took.
All he ever did was love his queen.

    7. I can absolutely understand the feeling. He said it himself…he saw the work and passion that went on behind the scenes and that fuels his feelings towards season 8 and the series overall.

But all that really matters is the final product. That’s what all the work is for. The behind the scenes work and passion still counts, but only as far as the final product takes it. I’ve been in theatrical productions that had similarly passionate people building the show, but turned out to be a misfire. That happens. It means that something went wrong despite the talent behind it.

I think my only issue is, Kit can’t separate himself to see that… or at least say it publicly. Like, you cannot look at Season 8 and say it was a good send off, let alone great.

    8. Look, I think Kit is a good actor. I hope he has a long successful career. With that said, chances are that the work he will be most known for will always be GOT.

Given that, it sucks for him that it ended the way it did.

    9. Kit, no one is blaming you, or any of the other actors for that matter.

We all agree it was the writing.

Meh, bro met and married a literal Scottish princess through that show. I don’t feel bad for him in any sense

I can understand why he’s defensive of it. This is something that was a solid decade or so of his life and he put a lot of effort and passion into it. The show clearly meant and still means a lot to him even if everyone knows the fault of its downfall is cuz of the writing.

I thought it was a fine season and wrapped up the story nicely. Unpopular online opinion? Sure. But pretty much everyone i know personally watched the show, and not one of them had a problem with the last season unless it was because their favorite character died. So you can’t convince me people REALLY disliked it. They just like saying they did online so they can be a cool kid. Like hating on Nickleback for being lame or on Metallica for ‘selling out’…all while cranking their music when they’re alone in their cars. But if you really hated it…more power to you.

    13. I love Kit but I’m sick of hearing this. The directors and writer did a bad job. The last few seasons nosedived. Just because they trauma bonded or were nice to the cast doesn’t lessen that. Kit can’t seem to get over it but he has to eventually admit it instead of act like some kind of Stockholm syndrome survivor.

    14. The ending is terrible, but I completely understand what he’s saying. After all these years, hearing “redo the last season” again, I think, might be considered a bit offensive to those who have moved on with their careers.

The way this is happening to every big show now, going out of our way to find reasons to tear them apart for fun, turning creators into parasocial villains and ginning up conspiracy theories to support that, turning every fan space into performative snark slop

It started with GoT. Before that, shows like BSG and LOST had divisive endings, but the people who didn’t like them just bounced and let fans be.

Now it’s hard to talk about The Pitt online, much less Stranger Things or TLOU or The Boys, without people swarming in and making the whole exercise pointless and miserable.

Every time I begin to feel a little down about my work, I think to myself *at least I wasn’t the person that wrote The Long Night*.

Any idiot could see that was about the worst battle plan ever created and these are supposed to be fairly smart people who have been in many battles and some are considered masters. Then they do *that.*

I like to think no matter what stupid thing I’ve done, I at least didn’t make that.

Golly gee wilikers, I can’t even begin to imagine the pressure of having to write for a show that 10+ million people will see.

    18. We all are. We spent years invested In that show only to get rug pulled by the most flaccid ending ever

It was actually very good and people. The audience getting their heart broken was the point.

“Life is not a song, sweetling. Someday you may learn that, to your sorrow.”

People act like the ending ruined the whole series. I don’t get the hate.

Honey even Louis Vuitton makes mistakes.

      It’s not his fault.

GRRM and D&D did a bad job after the source material started drying up of navigating the show. And they did a very bad job in the final season.

Like, GRRM needed to make D&D do somethings very different in S5/S6 if things were ending the way they did. S7 and S8 just feel so out of place now.

    23. Jesus, it’s been seven years and a pandemic. I really can’t hear the subject anymore.

Did he and the other performers do the best under the circumstances? I think so!

Nevertheless, they are paid actors who are only paid to do their part in the production and whose task is neither to actively shape the series nor to decide on the scripts.

Accordingly, he would have been sufficient to emphasize in the years after the end that he did his best and would not answer any questions on this topic in the future, as he has new projects that he focuses on.

But it is much sadder that this was the peak of his career for Kit Harington, so that he could not talk about anything else for 7 years or convince with anything else.

Unfortunately, so you can almost only talk to him about this topic and he will remain the eternal Jon Snow until he either delivers something to talk about again or ends the discussions once and for all, in order to be able to conclude personally with the past too.

Otherwise, it would only remain to one day slip back into the role and then deliver something better under potentially active participation – which he categorically rejects in parallel.

All this together, however, is not very helpful to his career too, as can be clearly seen from the lack of success over the last decade.

    24. I agree with his defending season 8 as getting all of the hate. The writers started fucking up and rushing things way before that.

    25. Unpopular opinion: The first three episodes of season 8 were fucking great.

    26. I guess it’s hard when he had to be in a bad season when he didn’t want it…
