First Image from Historical-Folk-Horror ‘King’s Daughters’ from Director Pascal Plante (‘Red Rooms’) – Set in 1663, it follows the cursed transatlantic voyage of the first group of orphan virgins sent by King Louis XIV to be married off in his faltering colony of New-France, now known as Quebec.

**The Testament of Ann Lee** died for this.
Jokes aside, **Red Rooms** is one of the best movies of the past decade and this sounds fucking amazing. It’ll star legendary French actress Sandrine Bonnaire and he’s bringing back actress Laurie Babin from **Red Rooms** as well (along with the co-writer). Instantly my most-anticipated movie of 2027.
> Set in 1663, “King’s Daughters” chronicles the cursed transatlantic voyage of the first group of orphan virgins sent by King Louis XIV to be married off in his faltering colony of New-France, which is the area now known as Quebec. These exiled maidens – including the youngest, Catherine Moitié, 13 years old – undergo a horrifying crossing of 111 days, plagued by promiscuity, disease, superstitious crew, famine, vermin, apathy and death.
Pascal and the two lead actresses of **Red Rooms** joined us here in /r/movies for an AMA 2 years ago for anyone interested:

Loved Red Rooms, looking forward to seeing this next one
Very seated. Claustrophobic folk horror like The Lighthouse but with a big cast of women sounds intriguing. Not enough movies in this time period imo. Crazy that this actually based on a real historical voyage.
Historical folk horror has one of the highest ‘this could either be a masterpiece or unbearable’ ratios imaginable.
Red Rooms is such a great movie. I’m definitely excited for this.
Curious to see how the history is handled.
Every time a post about these women is made in TIL, there are hundreds of comments defending that being sent off to the Americas was actually a privilege and that the women that chose to go did so 100% consensually.
Feels like the summary implies this was against their will.
To be clear, this was a voluntary program.
Come to think of it, the history of New France is underrepresented on film, which is a shame if you know anything about it. Quebec is home to the oldest cities in North America.
ok, i love red rooms so im looking forward for thiis
