Oh man I loved Constantine. This movie and Equilibrium are two of my favourite underrated gems
I always had the feeling though that the main reason Constantine flopped was that critics generally don’t like fantasy movies they don’t have the IQ or mental maturity to understand them and then the general audiences especially in USA didn’t get into it due to the religious elements of the story
But it was such a great film in my opinion

I know comic purists will disagree but I loved Constantine’s reworked backstory in this movie
This is probably one of the few examples of a movie changing a key element of the source material and it still fucking working.
The problem was then fans were confused and people who didn’t know were just oblivious.
I love Keanu Reeves, but as a Hellblazer fan I can never truly enjoy this film.
If anyone is interested in a comic accurate Constantine, check out [the 2014 TV-show](https://youtu.be/vtbinTXw9-s) (which was sadly cancelled after 14 episodes). Matt Ryan has been performing the best Constantine in Live Action and animation since then.
I wonder what the original hell would have looked like? I’ve read it was intended to be covered in black pitch, which was why Satan’s feet were covered in the later scene.
