Here come all the bros using “historical accuracy” to mask their racism.

On topic: Lupita is great. This movie looks epic.

Why are there no Greek actors in the casting? Or does inclusivity only work for Americans?

    3. I don’t think this race swapping is a big deal at all, it’s time for a white Blade.

    4. For the people wondering why Lupita will do a dual role, Helen and Clytemnestra are the female half of quadruplets; the other half being Castor and Pollux.

…if you consider 4 kids being hatched from 2 eggs laid by a woman who had sex with a swan (aka Zeus) as “quadruplets”…

    5. Love Lupita and have no issue with her casting.

I got an issue with no Mediterranean/Greek/Middle Eastern actors being cast in any role, in a film that’s situated there!!

But yeah let’s have Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway back.

    6. the fact that they went with Matt Damon over Stavros Halkias is the real problem here.

I’m going to zag here, fuck the race talk: We’re casting a 43 year old as Helen of Troy? Diane Kruger is literally only 6 years older than Lupita, but played her 20 years ago. Our politics are geriatric and so goes the rest of our culture.

I tapped out of this movie when Nolan cast Travis fucking Scott of all the people.

Well, it seems I will not watch this then. Not supporting this with my money. Wish the actress luck in her endeavours though, this is not on her

    10. Until I read about the twin thing I was thinking “of course Nolan would go to lengths to not have another actress in the movie.”

I just don’t like that it’s a marvel avengers cast. Makes it seem like a giant spectacle rather than the retelling of a classic story.

I don’t get it. But if I question it, I’m racist. So whatever. Snow White 2.0

Weird choice of headline considering I read a good chunk of the article without even seeing that fact mentioned.

      Seriously…it’s a 3000 word article, and she’s mentioned in 1/2 of a single paragraph.

    14. hoo boy. Wake me up when the culture warriors have exhausted their talking point flash cards and we can actually talk about the film.

If you had a problem with Scarlett Johansson being cast in Ghost in the shell, than you should have a problem with this

OMG the neck beards are going to be apoplectic. We will never hear the end of it.

Wow I thought she would be playing a goddess which is definitely a better choice. Like someone like Athena.

Anyway, in my fancast Christian Bale should have been Odysseus so what do I know.

    18. Nolan’s commitment to feeding the ragebait industrial complex is truly admirable.

When this film is inevitably a big success, they can all keep crying in the corner and sharing clips of the one good scene from _Troy_ while pretending it was actually a masterpiece.

    19. I was really holding out for an Eskimo casting, tbh… none are a more brave and powerful people as the frozen fisher folk!

Jokes aside, the problem this film has is design is all over the place, it has modern features and sensibilities, design, casting and accents all over the place.

If it was for example, “The Odyssey In Manhatten” as adaptation 100% behind the kaleidoscope of choices reflecting such a merging but otherwise aesthetically it is akin to a breaking of immersion of the Ancient World depicting it’s own ancient age of myths with Americana Eurotrash.
