When i was a kid, i was obessed with dinosaur documentaries, meaning i eventually watched the ancient aliens dinosaur episode (since it seems ancient aliens is popular in czechia, and on csfd (czech version of imdb) is listed as the 469th favourite series along with Walking with Dinosaurs!), but now i grew up and realized that ancient aliens is shit. It is extremly stupid, flatout steals footage (No, no not you clash of the dinosaurs and jurassic fight club from acutally good documentaries, creationist, pseudosciencefitic, and a load of nonsense, and yet it somehow still airs on history channel? The history channel also started to air nondocumentaries like the vikings show? And now it is flooded by either ancient aliens, its 2 clipshow spin offs, conspiracy (or pokemon seizure) filled celebrity hosted shows that are getting milked to death (especially the history's greatest mysteries and willaim shatner ones), ai slop, or oak island (which i hope ends with the treasure being the friends they made along the way). They are even bringing back old goated history channel shows like Life After People and MonsterQuest and turning it into Killer Kings style ai slop, seriously don't watch the jersey devil promotional video on their youtube channel, it is so cringe, especially the thumbnail and ending, and complety kills the whole "Search for it but never find it" style of the original!

But back to Ancient Aliens, they claim absolute lies, and even quote mine acutal sciencetists like Luis Chiappe. Like claiming that Albert Einstein learned all his influenital knowledge from aliens, although it really is because of einstein's autisim. Or that aliens wiped out the dinosaurs, although the asteriod was created when two asteroids in the baptisna belt collided in the jurassic period. Or Or that the world will end in 2012, which is not true, because we are in 2026 now. Or Or Or that octopus are acutally aliens, even though are they fossil evidence of prehistoric octopus ancestors named Pohlsepia and Palaeoctopus.

It would be intersting if you in the comments left a list (preferby a google drive) of geninuly good and historical/archaeological, non conspiracy, non alien version/counterpart (or alternative, but not any youtube original video like PBS digital studios or streaming programs from netflix, apple tv+, etc.) documentary of every episode of ancient aliens ngl, because everytime i try to watch ancient aliens i feel i want something more historical and feel wrong for doing that.

I mean, the title alone tells you it’s fiction.

When I was a kid in the 1970s, this sort of shit was all the rage along with late great planet Earth religious bullshit. In all honesty, being exposed to it then made me a skeptic for the rest of my life. That anyone in 2026 still believes any of this is incredible to me.

I feel like Ancient Aliens started out as a kind of “what if” documentary. What if we knew for a fact that aliens were real and had been visiting Earth for millenia, what historical evidence would we look at in a new light? That’s a fun and interesting question to explore, and some of what I’ve seen on Ancient Aliens is pretty cool if you take it from that perspective, which I think was the original intent.

But 22 seasons later and it’s obviously gone way, way, way off the rails and given a platform to all kinds of wacky conspiracy theories.

On the one hand, it’s hella dumb. On the other, I’m sure glad my dad became an avid History Channel viewer instead of a Fox News zombie in his retirement. So it’s not all bad.

I’m old enough to remember when History Channel was the WW2 Channel.  I miss those days

Fuck you. Ancient aliens and a bag of weed is the best way to spend a weekend in you early 20s

Are these not the best sciencetists to speak on the subject?

The new UFO files drop is literally just screen shots from this show. Dumb AF

I have seen an unidentified object with my own eyes and I broadly accept the central premise of the show: That a great many things in the past(specifically religion) may be much more reasonably chalked up to advanced intelligences than various magic sky-daddies.

But Ancient Aliens feels like it is deliberately designed to present the ideas of its participants in the most laughably goofy way possible.

Ancient stories tell of beings that came from the sky and made promises of power to men? Fine, sure, maybe. They did it because the pyramids align to form ancient networks of chi energy flow to power their spacecraft? What, why?

It’s like they’re presenting the most interesting questions in the world and deliberately trying to make anyone asking those questions look like a drooling moron.

    10. Anyone Gen X and older probably remembers Unsolved Mysteries with Robert Stack. Some of the stories they covered were just as far out there as anything Ancient Aliens did.

If you went into Ancient Aliens expecting to get legitimate history lessons, that’s on you.

    12. Wait until you hear about what happened to The Learning Channel….
The 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America Strike allowed networks to learn that they really only need producers and an idea for a reality TV show in order to still make money without having to rely on writers.

    13. I remember the history channel and the learning channel totally changing their catalog of shows right around the time ancient aliens came out.

I came across that site several times over the years, including just yesterday when researching Bilal Hasna of Half Man. Incredibly exhaustive database, clearly a crazy amount of effort has gone into it.

I watched the show a few days back just to see the guy the meme came from and couldnt make it past the first release of the series

I remember years ago that co-worker who will talk about how amazing that show was and during our lunch he will narrate the whole story of each episode every time it aired. The worst part is that he seemed to believe… It’s crazy how the History Channel got away spreading aluminum hat propaganda.

I’m glad to have never met anyone who unironically watches Ancient Aliens.

As someone who is interested in UFO/alien/whatever you want to call it, the show is trash and it perpetuates racist ideas. While there are certainly interesting things like ufo depictions in artwork, most of the ancient aliens theory boils down to “this society could not have done this on their own because they are brown”
