I’m not scared that he’s writing a Lord of the Rings movie. I’m blindsided that he’s writing a LotR movie. You gotta give me a chance to be scared first!
I’m not scared. I just think the premise of that movie (and the Gollum movie) is pretty stupid and the whole thing reeks of a cash grab.
I feel the sequel idea he has is better than the prequel Gollum film to be honest
However I do with they made it more about Legolas and Gimli set after Aragorns death and it ends with Legolas going to the Undying lands with Gimli. It would be nice to see one last adventure with them and getting to see everyone in the Undying lands. It would be a nice Epilogue film. Who knows maybe they could end this film that way.
I’m not scared and I don’t care. Slop isn’t worth hating. They’re not even worth my attention. He could make Gandalf dance in a giant syringe costume for all I care. I won’t be paying for anything he’s attached to so it doesn’t matter.

Just remember no matter how bad it is, it won’t change how good LOTR is. The Hobbit movies proved that.
Well, at least he’s a huge LotR nerd so that’ll make me a bit less weary, kind of like how Henry Cavill is on a Warhammer 40k project.
Colbert is basically the defacto source of LOTR lore fact, he will do an amazing job
The Lord of the Rings film trilogy is great because it was based on great novels. Trying to write new material outside of the novels is going to be trash. Just look at The Rings of Power or when Game of Thrones ran out of source material. The franchise is over, stop trying to milk it with mediocre fan fiction.
I _want_ to trust Colbert. In fact, of all the names that might be attached to such a thing, his is probably one of the best, since I know he cares about the source material. It will be made with love and reverence, if nothing else.
On the other hand, history has taught me that legacy sequels are “meh” at the absolute best, and have great potential to be much worse.
The only real quality legacy sequel I can think of off the top of my head was Fury Road/Furiosa, and those may as well have been a reboot of the franchise for all the connections they had to the older Mad Max films.
Honestly, I’m okay with the idea, it will probably be fine. He can recite the Silmarillion by heart, but that doesn’t make him a director.
But the more I see these ads telling me how “I’m not ready for Colbert’s LOTR” the less I want to watch it.

Would this technically be fan-fiction? It seems a pretty small-scale premise to be using the name still.
More like disappointed and immediately turned off.
I get that it’d be near on impossible to get greenlit but in a situation like this I’d rather see someone create their own world inspired by the works of Tolkien as opposed to trying to adapt his works yet again.
Does he? Does he *really*? And if he does, what does he plan to do with that knowledge? Because many in his shoes, nearly all in fact, would just rub our noses in it and do it anyway.
I’m more optimistic about an adaptation of the early chapters cut from the movie than I am of hunt for gollum.
Just need to get a great singer for Bombadil

I’m not scared. I didn’t enjoy the Hobbit trilogy nearly as much as the main trilogy, I don’t vibe with the anime they released (it looks boring), I’m really doubting Hunt for Gollum will be good and Rings of Power doesn’t seem to be well-received either. So there’s not been a single movie or series since LotR that really interested me.
Basically, I’m at the point of “why the hell not”. In my opinion (and I know some will disagree since many still love the Hobbit and even RoP has its fans), the bar is quite low, so if it turns out good, then I’ll be happy, if not, well… he can’t do much worse.
And I know he knows his stuff, so there is that. It’s not like they gave it to someone who doesn’t know what’s a Hobbit, or a Maia.
I mentioned to a friend that a lotr sequel is potentially being made and his response was “Nooooo!”
I planned to drive the dagger deeper into the gut by telling him it was being written by Colbert and he went, “Wait, what? No, that could actually work.”
He then proceeded to inform me of what massive Tolkien nerd Colbert is. So we both learned something new that day. Which was nice.
Why don’t they tell the original story of the rise of Sauron and how he came to power under the first dark lord? Thats the only story remaining that is worth telling.

This guy is the most insufferable LOTR fan and not a screenwriter. This will be fine at best, but probably as shit or shittier everything else post LOTR.
Not really. He’s a true fan of the books so even though I think he’s a bit of a twat I’d like to see what he comes up with .
