Eddie Murphy is going to try and make The Nutty Professor 3 so he can dominate the Best Actor category.

    > One of the most notable examples was Kate Winslet’s 2008 run, when she campaigned in lead for “Revolutionary Road” and supporting for “The Reader,” winning Golden Globes in both. By the time Oscar nominations were announced, “The Reader” had been elevated to lead, and “Revolutionary Road” was shut out. She would eventually win best actress. Under the previous rules in place until now, if a performer landed in the top five with two performances in the same category, the higher-vote-getter would be declared the nominee, and the other would be removed. There’s a fair assumption that both of Winslet’s performances were in the top five of her given year.

That seems sensible. It’s all a marketing bonanza for horn tooting more than anything, but having it be sensible isn’t bad.

The multiple nominations should’ve always been the case. Justice for Kate Winslet.

God it would be so funny if Robert Pattinson got a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Dune 3 and The Odyssey

    – The only sorts of performances that will be eligible for acting Oscars are those demonstrably performed by humans with their consent.
    – Performers can now receive multiple nominations in the same category.
    – Screenplays must be human-written to qualify.
    – Multiple films from the same country can now compete for Best International Feature.

I like this. Leo should have been double nominated in 2006 for The Departed and Blood Diamond

I’m not sure about the multiple nominations, we should be giving different actors a chance right?

  8. > Another major change arrived in the international feature category, where multiple films from the same country can now qualify for a nomination

This is a big change. And a good one. I’m too lazy to look, but I remember some past cases (the article mentions one recent example: Anatomy of a Fall) of absolute classic foreign films not being selected by their home country, so having zero chance of even getting a nomination.
