Meta has threatened to block access to Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp in New Mexico, which would be an unprecedented move in the U.S. The ultimatum comes after the company was found liable and fined $375m for child safety failures in a landmark lawsuit brought by the state’s AG.

This is genuinely such a good thing it’s hilarious. They lose a whole state to spy on. They would never actually do that.

Friendly reminder to everyone who doesn’t get it. Tech companies need states and nations A LOT more than states and nations need tech companies. If tomorrow META disappeared, New Mexico would totally be fine. Time for states and nations to grow a spine and to remind tech companies of this.

Prime example of a company that should be broken apart and fined again for even trying this.

NM has abortion access, white sands national park, and potentially no Meta Platforms? They really do have it all. 🥲

If they really go through with this, I bet any money that they’ll put some bullshit statement on all meta websites about government interference with private business.

How do we get the remaining 49 states to file similar law suits and get meta to receive similar judgments?

  8. Glad I don’t use any of those shit apps…cus it wouldn’t effect me whatsoever even if I lived in NM.
