What is an earned tattoo, exactly?
There is definitely a subsect of tattoo folks who hate the “clipart” type style of smaller tattoos without a larger theme, but who really fucking cares.

I used to think the same until I got my first tattoo while studying abroad.
Like everything in life, you can certainly overdo it and tattoos are no exception… But for the most part, I think it’s nice that people can have meanings associated with their tattoos and there’s really no harm being done to anybody

i remember when he was hot, now he’s just grumpy
( this was prob 25 years ago) i had a patient i was assisting her with her bath one day. she was sitting at the edge of the bed and i saw “dirt” on her abdomen and attempted to wash it off but it wouldn’t come off. i looked closed and it was a tattoo of a little sewing machine! she said her and her daughter and granddaughter all got sewing machine tattoos b/c they all liked to sew. thought this was so cute. 🪡

When I got my first tattoo before the artist would do it he gave a speech on how it could effect my life not being able to get certain jobs and being judged by people and made sure I was ok with that. These days that’s not necessary but it once was tattoos are just art now but once they were a life style. It’s better the way it is now obviously.
