LeVar Burton speaks out against government cuts to public broadcasting funding: “Just like we have a problem with the truth in this nation, we also are addicted to spending money on war & the weapons of war. And we have sacrificed generations of our kids & their education as a result.”

  1. He’s right. The damage this administration is doing (and most Republican regimes let’s be honest) is going to echo for decades. Add in social media and blatant propaganda. We’re cooked as a global leader in anything positive going forward.

I love how most of the celebrities are vocal about the wrongdoings of government. The country i am originally from it will never happen that’s why America is greatest democracy despite the negative among us we fight them hard.

  5. I loved this man all my child hood and to this day. He has such a beautiful heart and genuinely cares for others.

Fred Rogers and Betty White went out of their way to include afro Americans and did it with such love in their hearts. LeVar was the perfect person, young enough at the time, to carry on his legacy like an apprentice. I think he’s amazing anyway but to see him remain so faithful to the memory of a man who made an impact on millions of people. And now Reading Rainbow was restarted w another younger guy too?

I come from a culture that values education over everything. Knowledge is power and the less educated a populace is, the easier it is to control and abuse. We have got to shift the trend of reducing funding for education. I’m fortunate to live in a state that values education, teachers are paid well, and there is a lot of support for kids with special learning needs. Even with that, we don’t find education enough.

  8. Next year’s proposed US defense budget will balloon to $1.5 TRILLION! It was less than half that ten years ago. Defense spending is completely out of control and there are no representatives on either side willing to slow it down.

The man knows conflict, he has been involved with the ongoing **Borg conflict**, the border wars with the **Cardassian Union**, and the early phases of the **Klingon Civil War.**

and don’t get me started on the **Romulans**….

  10. He will always be one of my favorite famous people. For me he was like Mr. Rogers. And I’m a Star Trek fan so my adoration went much beyond childhood. We need more like him. He’s a good egg.

Mr. Roger’s and Reading Rainbow taught us manners, empathy, and comprehension. PBS is one of the great things about making this country great!

Thank you King for teaching us why reading is important and how to evacuate a Warp Core at sublight. Both very useful.

  13. The US has this undying need of “protection” when in reality they’ve been the aggressor since it’s inception.
