Beef, which debuted on April 16, managed 4.1M views in its first full week on the streamer, boosting it to No. 3 on the global English TV Top 10 from April 20 to 26. That’s up 70% from its debut weekend, signaling that Season 2 is at least generating a little bit of momentum, but the raw numbers aren’t looking great.
Running Point is not faring much better. Season 2 put up 5.3M views in its opening weekend, down 43% from the 9.3M views that Season 1 managed in the same timeframe. The second season’s performance was still enough to get it to second place on the English TV list, but it was far below the leader, a British psychological thriller called Unchosen (which got 10.4M views).

What’s really interesting is that shows can hit the top spot on Netflix, let alone the top 3, and yet this is the result anyway.
I feel like the bigger conversation is that streaming seems to be down across the board, which would explain why Netflix was interested in buying WB & going theatrical in the first place.
Streaming has plateaued.
Daredevil is suffering the same fate as well.

Running point is _very_ Mindy Kaling, and suffers from some of the problems that the _The Mindy Project_ suffered from.
Characters are thrown out at random to advance the plot. Season one had this whole huge subplot with Drew Tarver and his secret boyfriend, who then was quickly dumped in season 2 for the stupidest reason you could think of. Other characters who should be important were just off-screen mentions. Characters make wild life decisions that they take back an episode later with no consequences.
I want to like it more than I did, and I was a big fan of season 1.
HBO seems to be one of the few platforms that can maintain viewership. Daredevil also plunged in the ratings.
Running Point is such a mid show. The writing wastes such a talented cast.
The interesting part of Beef season 1 is the Asian culture and Asian community. That’s pretty much it.
Beef was one of my favorite seasons of television in the last decade but for some reason I just can’t muster the effort to watch the new season. It just didn’t need to be an anthology, they should have just kept it a miniseries.
IMO the Netflix experience has overall been pretty middling.
I’m less likely to open it than any other app, so I’m less likely to be reminded to start these shows.
Both had superior first seasons, especially Beef which feels more performative than the unhinged nature of the first season.
S2 of The Beef is hard to get into. Feels like it’s trying too hard to be Golf Course White Lotus. Also I just don’t see a world where William Fichtner listens to Hot Chip
Netflix has forgotten what made them great. Also I will keep banging this drum, in the years of network tv you had more episodes. For instance the A-team had 13 in season 1, but then 23 and 25 in seasons 2 & 3, or Drew Carrey had 22 episodes. All made without blue screens or modern technology that actually expedites the release of episodes. No, now you have a show like Stranger Things that has 8 episodes in a season. This is the real issue. Then to get to season 2 or 3 takes 2-3 years. Why? They did more with less years ago. It progressed the story.
Beef Season 1 is just on a whole other level compared to Season 2. I finished Season 2 earlier today and immediately rewatched the first episode of Season 1. The difference in quality of the writing and performances is staggering.
All i will say about beef is that the acting is phenomenal but like everything A24 it’s painful to watch. Carey mulligan is so compelling to me it’s crazy. I also have to say Charles Melton must be a really good actor to make me hate him so fucking much😂😂😂. I’ve seen him in other things and have never hated him so much before. Oscar Isaac won me over by the end. Caliee Spaeny was super believable as well. They made the most of a plot that was kinda meh.
My opinion is that there are way too many series being produced and people are desperate for community around media so people are returning to movies and theatres more. 75% of the time I can’t talk about a show with anybody I know because everyone is watching different things.
Running point was boring. Ended up just skipping to the last ep.
Heads up: if you watch the first two episodes of season 2 you can go right to the final episode and you won’t be lost at all.
