    1. Kind of surprising considering it has more buzzy stars this time around and the reviews are mostly around the same level.

While I certainly don’t encompass the entire 60%, I did reference >!DoesTheDogDie.com!< before deciding not to watch it

Not surprised at all. Season 2 had some great moments, but was nowhere near as strong overall as season 1. Didn’t help that the ending fucking sucked.

    4. When this came out, for some reason my brain was wondering why there was a new season of “The Bear”. Took me a minute.

Anthology shows are tough, like I have no desire to watch this because it’s not the show I watched last time. Other than being called Beef it’s not the same show

    6. Brother, I had no idea this was even out until last week. Netflix barely advertises!

I noticed it was like #5 or 6 in the Top 10 which really surprised me.  I thought this would be a guaranteed hit. You can’t say it’s word of mouth or whatever because the first was so successful so at the very least the debut should’ve been big, but like I said it was #5-6.  Doesn’t make sense. Maybe people didn’t like the actors or setting or something, or there wasn’t enough marketing.

The first season was brilliantly written and acted. I just don’t know if I want to go through that again.

    9. A 3 year gap between shows is bound to kill hype. And on top of that its an anthology show.

Not sure why but I was definitely more aware of season 1 than 2, and thats coming from a fan of season 1 and was looking forward to this. I didnt realize it was out until I saw a reddit post mentioning it.

Shame that S2 is rather good. Personally I think it’s more well rounded than S1.

    12. I love season 1 because of the asian culture. And some of characters reminds me of my family. Danny reminds me of Me after college finding a job in neighboring country (An asian in different asian world).

Season 2 I don’t find it interesting include Oscar Issac which i love.

    13. Ehhh I feel like this misleading considering how huge S1 got, it’s not like it had normal viewership

    14. I think there are just too many interesting shows coming out right now. I’ll get to Beef eventually, but I’ve got a queue I’m working through. I wonder if it is similar for others

    15. Not going to watch this one. Loved the first season. They always follow up the first good thing with an absolute shitter.

    16. This show is really really good. Maybe I live under a rock and don’t watch much TV anymore but this is the best thing I’ve seen in the past year.

I’m on episode 7 and if the ending isn’t good of course I’ll revise my opinion

Really enjoyed the first season of Beef, knew this was coming, heard all the casting announcements, and still somehow had absolutely no clue this dropped. How does Netflix manage to do this?

Oh I thought the second season was in production, didn’t realize it was already on its way.

That’s a shame. It’s a fantastic season of television. Viewers who are complaining that it’s not a rehash of the first season are missing the point.

The “beef” is a lot more nuanced than the road rage catalyst of season 1, and audiences seem confused that the showrunners have taken a quieter approach this go around and there isn’t as much overt anger on display.

Season two manages to tell a story where every single character has beef with every other character in unique ways. You could say everyone has beef, and deciding to filter that through the lens of two different couples belonging to different generations and tax brackets was really clever and compelling.

Gave a good portrait of how capitalism and struggles can impact and strain even the seemingly strongest relationships.

    20. I thought season 1 was good. Literally had no idea season 2 had come out. Might be a marketing problem.

I enjoyed it, but I also think it lost its way in the last 1-2 episodes, where season 1 felt more complete and balanced, quality-wise.

This metric doesn’t mean anything. It’s Netflix, people can watch this whenever they want. All episodes. People in the middle of shows or whatever reason.

    23. hymenbutterfly on

Everyone in the comments scrambling to correlate quality to this result. That’s a flawed premise. There’s so many factors at play here for this result, but quality is probably on the lower end of the list

    24. natalie_mf_portman on

I think this is more about the public’s souring on Netflix price increases

    25. FloatingTacos on

I thought Season 2 was incredible, way better than Season 1 IMO. But I didn’t know it came out until 2-3 days after it came out, Netflix didn’t do a good job on marketing
