To qualify for the new Infinity Vision label, auditoriums will need a screen width of at least 50-feet, **laser projection**, and the 7.1 surround-sound system from Dolby Laboratories Inc., according to people familiar with the matter.
So this is just an FU toward IMAX? PRetending a 70mm projection isn’t good enough for their high standards?

Smart business play by Disney. Could be a real hit to IMAX if it works.

Even though the tech isn’t that different from other PLF (Premium Large Format) screens like Dolby Vision, IMAX represents a huge chunk of box office for spectacle movies like Marvel ones. The studios are constantly competing for their availability.
Marvel didn’t manage to get IMAX screens for Avengers Doomsday, so this is a cope.

Cope harder, Disney. IMAX 70mm trumps every time.

much lower standard than IMAX. not sure what the flex here is other than rebranding several mid range screens. you could meet the requirements with a home projection unit and sound system. Nice projectors can do 500in diag Not 50 foot but you don’t sit as far back either.

They want to charge IMAX prices without any IMAX screens

So they are making up a new certification since Dune 3 has an exclusive deal with imax at the same release time?

Man this is so lame. My AVX theatre is gonna bite on this prob. Would rather have Dune on it. The imax in my city is a “true” imax, so the sound isnt quite there compared to the avx i have that uses dolby atmos. This gimmick is gonna work eventually.
