I don’t think it’s necessary to apologize for jokes from a different time. Things change. You adapt to the times you’re in.
There are words I don’t use today that I did all the time in high school. I’m not gonna apologize to the communities those words were offensive to. My “penance” is not using them anymore. It doesn’t need to be any more complicated than that.
