I’m fine with this. If something is doing well in theaters don’t cut its legs out from under it.

>“We announced yesterday that MGM is extending the exclusive theatrical window for ‘Project Hail Mary,’ so it won’t be on streaming anytime soon. This is a movie that needs to be seen on a big screen – and with a full return to IMAX screens for one week only starting this weekend, make plans to see it in a theater now! Bring friends and loved ones. It’s an experience to share with others.”

This movie is absolutely worth seeing on the big screen.

Excellent! Hope it gets as close to a billion dollars as it can. Really does deserve the love.

Cool, because I haven’t seen it yet and I still want to. I waited too long for attendance in IMAX showings to decrease and to got quickly replaced by Mario…

It’s reassuring to know Amazon is willing to do this. It never made sense to me how they spend a lot of money on movies that go straight to streaming and have a crappy rate-of-return by traditional standards. This way, the movie can breakeven at the box office and still pull in money once on streaming instead of needing 800M views to be deemed successful.

I mean go see it in theatres people. its way too epic to watch on a tiny 60 inch screen.

This was a great movie. I like The Martian more still, but this was great, too.

A great decision in my opinion. Such a fantastic movie and it was so beautiful in IMAX.
I don’t go to the movies often because I personally am patient for them to hit streaming services or even Blu-Ray, but this was a movie that I just couldn’t wait for. I’m glad I had the chance to watch it on the big screen. Such a fun and great movie man.

Good to see Amazon is happy to earn more money from theaters. Already saw it once and got my IMAX tickets for tomorrow.

Works for me. I haven’t been able to go see it because the theaters have been packed on weekends and weeknights.

At long last. I hate this new trend of giving movies such a short run time at Cinema’s. It is like they have forgotten that we all have lives.
I used to enjoy going to the Cinema after the initial rush was over, these days its virtually impossible to that as they get such a short run

Movies like this literally need to be experienced on an imax screen with theater speakers. dumping a massive sci-fi spectacle onto streaming after like three weeks would have been an absolute crime ngl.

it’s almost like if you actually make a phenomenal adaptation that respects the source material, people will gladly pay to watch it in a theater instead of waiting for it to drop on some random streaming app. completely groundbreaking concept for hollywood executives tbh.

I will likely buy it digitally too first (since it will drop at home that way first) because, well, I love this movie almost as much as I love the book.

I don’t do this for many films. Movie tickets have gotten more expensive. And the ability to stream at home has gotten more convenient for some. But if there is any blockbuster visual spectacle that should be seen on the biggest screen of your local cinema, it is Project Hail Mary.
It’s one of the best cinematic experiences I’ve had in the last couple of years. It’s up there with Sinners last year for me. It’s a also a damn good Sci-Fi film. It’s one of Ryan Gosling’s best films in years. And one of his more sincere and likable performances. The relationship between Human Grace and Eridian Rocky is definitely going to go down as one of the more memorable film bromances in recent cinema.
I’m a big Star Trek fan. And to me the best Star Trek episodes were ultimately about Hope for a Better Future. And this film got me in the feels in a way I wasn’t expecting. Maybe it isn’t the most perfectly written script. I don’t care! I unapologetically loved this film! I must read the book.

Well, shit. There’s only one movie theater in my country, it’s 1.5 hours away, and it isn’t showing Project Hail Mary. Guess I won’t be seeing it for a long time.
