  1. With all the delays, I was convinced Sony were gonna pawn this one off to a streamer, too. Evidently not. This’ll be TriStar’s second big bet of the year, and 3000’s second theatrical film, so I hope it works.

  2. I hope Taika can snap the cold streak he’s been on. I like a lot of his earlier work but he’s really fallen off over the last few years

  3. Yeah… if it’s Taika Waititi, that’s a hard pass for me. And I love Amy Adams and want to see more Jenna Ortega, but he’s cinematic poison in my eyes.

  4. I hated Love and Thunder but in no way does it have any business destroying his career. Bring on the new project!

I love the book but Waititi is such a weird choice to adapt it (or any Ishiguro for that matter.) The novel is heartbreaking in a really creeping and subtle way that the reader slowly realizes, and does not at all fit with Taika’s over the top humor

Amazing book but I’m not sure if Taika is the right person for this

  7. more Jenna Ortega slop, more Taika Waititi slop, incoming

Amy please go back to like idk, working with Denis or PTA, not Taika the hack

I know Denis is doing Bond after Dune 3, screw it, cast Amy in a bond movie at this point, anything to get her back in a good movie, no clue what PTA is up to next after how amazing OBAA was and it swept the awards, but def wouldn’t mind seeing her cast in one of his films again. Amy really is in need of another great movie, is Arrival really the last great one she was in? I know she was nominated for Vice (didn’t watch it, not interested in any movies about any presidents from the last century), but since then?

Jenna Ortega has quickly become one of *those* “oh that actor is in this movie! means this movie will probably suck because a lot of the movies this actor appears in suck!”, yeah, one of those….. I thought Hurry Up Tomorrow was the 2nd worst movie of 2025 besides Minecraft (no I did not watch War of the Worlds with Ice Cube or Snow White), just terrible, my expectations were already low because of The Weeknd after The Idol, but I didn’t expect it to be *that* terrible coming the director of Waves and It Comes at Night since I quite enjoyed both of those films (It Comes at Night was flawed and badly marketed, but man, I really liked the rawness of it all, I love the cast, Edgerton is so good), Death of a Unicorn was so bad, I watched Millers Girl and fell asleep, she just stars in endless slop, it’s the same issue I have with actors like Jack Black, The Rock, Jason Momoa, Paul Rudd, Chris Pratt, Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell, etc. they just say yes to any script they receive and appear in like 5 mediocre to bad movies per year.

The timing, late Octobter suggests award season aspirations from Sony.  They atleast feel its worth a shot at an Oscar. It’s a up hill battle but we’ve been surprised before.  I dont think this will be a big money maker as it’s very niche, but again we’ve seen surprised. I do think it will be a critical darling though. Based on some of the reactions to the trailer describing it as emotional, vibrant and very interesting I’m farely certain we’re not looking at a turd. Unless you ask Jeff Shneider, but that guy’s an ageing edgelord who hates on everything for clicks and I’m surprised more people haven’t figured that out yet.

Interestingly this releases 2 weeks before Jennas other arguably much bigger film The Great Beyond. I don’t think that will be a problem but its something to consider.  Afterall Zendayas basically in a new film every other month this year.

Did he actually read the book or is he applying his usual “I don’t need to know the characters and the story” approach?
