It’s such a shame to see the era of big, personality driven late night shows end like this. They’re really trading a legacy for a cheap, generic format.

I love UK TV but never really got into the panel shows. I’ve started watching a NZ show called 7 Days and am hooked. I kind of wish they’d do an American version of that because I think it could work well in late night. Gutfeld is kind of in the same vein, but they don’t have the stand up/sketches and there’s a still a traditional late night monologue.
As far as the traditional late night show model is concerned, take all the politics and Trump stuff out of it, I just don’t know if this format works.
For me personally staying up late outside of a sports game is out of the question anyway. But I also think we aren’t as drawn to celebrities as we used to be.
With social media we have access to whatever we want from them: the good, the bad, the ugly and everything else.
Why do I need to hear Halle Berry tell a made up story about her stepmom or Zendaya make fun of Jimmy Kimmel not knowing any famous YouTubers?
I think something comic driven and more fun could catch on. I don’t think the answer is Comics Unleashed, but CBS has at least been trying some stuff with At Midnight and the new show after Byron they’re working on.

That’s gotta make Byron Allen feel good
