    1. Watching it a second time I was so much more on her side.

Except for the birthday song lmao. That was a rough one.

Cranston on who the better TV wife was, Lois or Skyler:

      >“Well, strictly from a character standpoint… Lois,” replied Cranston, prompting Frankie Muniz to echo the general viewer sentiment towards Skyler: “I wanted to kill Skyler… Your life would have been so much easier! You were such a bad guy, you could’ve just gotten rid of her. All she did was complain!”

      >That’s when Cranston interjected to offer a more nuanced take on Skyler and criticise the real-life hate and death threats that Gunn received.

      >“She got a lot of blowback from that. Well, first of all, Anna Gunn is a superb actor,” said Cranston, who then pointed out how absurd the hate was. “Her husband leaves without any explanation. She’s pregnant. He’s making crystal methamphetamine. People have died… and she’s the b*tch?!”

I can’t lie, first time I watched BB i stopped at like S3 because I couldn’t stand Skyler. I finally spun it again last year, and I think I hated Walt more. Her acting/casting was incredible

Yeah that’s how shows about criminals doing criminal things work. The audience identifies with the protagonist. They could be a horrible person, and we root for them because that’s who the camera is pointed at.

    5. One of the biggest issues of Breaking Bad getting so mainstream popular is that there is an unironic large segment of people who say Walt as this badass sigma hero and everyone who opposed him as villian.

    6. She *cheated*. She *complained* about her man’s criminal behavior and refused to forgive him.

Morally monstrous conduct … at least for a she.

    7. It probably doesn’t help that most of her scenes are of her complaining or worrying. It makes sense but it doesn’t make her very likeable.

Hating Skylar is a red flag. He was abusive and a drug dealer. Walt was the villain and protagonist. You don’t have to be on his side, we were just watching him descend. You shouldn’t have been on his side, he was interesting.

What sympathy you might have had for him at the start should have given way disgust, like watching a highway pile up.

Of course Skylar did right thing. I found her annoying, but there were a lot of annoying characters in the show.

I gotta be honest, I watched the show shortly after it finished and I had avoided spoilers for the most part but I kept hearing how awful Skyler was and was prepared to totally hate the character and…she’s very sympathetic and a good character? She makes some big mistakes (as good characters do) and is far from a perfect person but everyone screaming and crying about how awful she was really surprised me. Her husband became a drug lord lmao. She’s doing ok comparatively

I mean yeah of course. It’s an anti-hero show. Would you watch a show where he listened to her, took money from his rich friends, went into cancer therapy and that was the show?

    12. We watched Breaking Bad to see Walt break bad. Realistically, his wife is freaked the fuck out about his changes as he becomes a bigger criminal. She objects to him breaking bad, but the viewers don’t want to see that and if she got her way, there would be less bad breaking, so we don’t like her, even if we would be her in that situation.

    13. Is it just me that never hated Skyler? Like I can see that maybe you dont find her scenes are exciting as those involved in the drug empire, but the first time I watched it, it was pretty justified why she was bitchy.

      1. She fucked Ted
      2. She gave all their escape money to Ted
      3. Walts gonna die, should support him trying to leave behind a bunch of money for them
      4. She fucked Ted

    15. Why does everyone judge things as black or white these days? What happened to the middle/grey area of comprehension?

    16. It’s interesting that nobody hates Carmella from The Sopranos. Not sure it means anything, just thought I’d put it out there.

    17. Hating Skylar is a crazy take, IMo. Never thought she was a bitch . Always thought her reaction was realistic and genuine

    18. HortonDrawsAwho on

I believe for a period of time Skylar was voted the most hated female in film and tv, the 2nd slot was tony sopranos sister lol

    19. Correct. I never understood the hatred people spewed at her. She was incredibly valid in her reaction.

    20. FriendlytoNature on

Exactly. I’m honestly not trying to say anything controversial, but women almost always get the short end of the stick in general but especially on forums/social media like this.

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen/heard a female character on a show/movie get the most criticism, because I guess some characters hit too close to home for a lot of men?

    21. StrictCelery on

“But we only hate Skyler because she wants Walt to stop!” would hold a lot more weight if Hank got even a fraction of the hate that Skyler got. Hell even Gus or the Salamancas didn’t get as much hate as Skyler when they were actively working against Walt.
