  1. > “To those who question what an 80-year-old man is doing writing a sexy, erotic thriller: the rumors of my cinematic impotence are exaggerated and ageist,” said Eszterhas in a statement at the time. “I call my writing partner the ‘Twisted Little Man’ and he lives somewhere deep inside me. He was born 29 and he will die 29 and he tells me he is ‘sky high up’ to write this piece and provide viewers with a wild and orgasmic ride. That makes me very happy.”

I don’t think his age is an issue. That he talks like this, on the other hand.

Basic Instinct isn’t even a good movie. Or some sort of classic. One scene that was shocking at the time made its way into the pop culture lexicon. That’s it. Why would anyone reboot this?

  3. Considering the ONLY scene anyone knows that film for is the interrogation one… they’re either going to dissapoint a lot of people, or dissapoint a lot of other people in a different way.

  4. I can’t wait for a gender-swapped interrogation scene where Barry Keoghan uncrosses and crosses his legs while wearing a kilt, so I can point out that it’s not an edgy reinvention, it’s a bit The Simpsons did in 1995.

honestly, given her inclination as an artist basic instinct is perfect for her.

Yeah, we aren’t watching any adaptations or reboots Emerald Fennell wants to direct, thanks :/

  7. Next up. White Men Can’t Jump, rebooted… (Edit: They already fuckin’ did this.)

Fuck sake. If all we’re gonna do is relive 80s and 90s movies, just re-release them in the theaters.

  8. Basic instinct was a very 90’s thriller, I am not sure how the story could go in this era. It was sexy but only an ok story. Also there is no nostalgia for this film. We have had sexy seductress stories for a long time, I am not sure what new they bring to the story.

Edit: unless they change up the genders and sexuality a bit.

The sexy, dark thriller market of the early-90s is long over: Repeating the same themes won’t hit at all the same way.

Just reboot Showgirls instead to create the New Vegas Tits Cinematic Universe (NVTCU)

So they’ll remake this shit but not “Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon”. Wow.

  12. Emerald Fennell needs an original script! Promising Young Woman was great, she needs to film original films

Every filmmaker finds their niche and I don’t hate the idea of female gaze driven erotic thrillers.

I just wish Fennell knew how to make something entertaining and not just a bunch of stylish stuff thrown about the place while screaming the subtext out loud at the top of her lungs.

Poor Hollywood😢, just make an erotic thriller, they are terrified to do something not part from a franchise.

As long as she leaves classic English literature alone, was worried her next project would be a hardcore, S and M version of Jane Eyre

Rebooting a mediocre movie from the 90’s, I can’t see this being successful/making money. Wuthering heights was a smart choice, a beloved classic, there was always going to be an audience for it.
