Snow White was released last year this week. The remake of the 1937 animated film grossed $87.2M Dom & 205.7M WW against a $240M+ budget, becoming a huge BO bomb, losing Disney at least $115M. It also received mixed to negative reviews and had generated numerous controversies since pre-release.

It’s wild to me that it’s only been a year – it feels like it came out years ago.
Well done, Disney for the perfect main characters casting and choosing to CGI the dwarves.
/s
This film sucked not because of Rachel Zegler (if anything, she was actually one of the film’s bright spots), but because of inexcusably hideous CGI dwarves.
It should also be noted once again that this film’s budget is likely to be $270 million, which is $20 million HIGHER than a certain film that has:
1. A cruise ship-load of CGI.
2. About 90% of cast members wearing some sort of high-quality prosthetics.
3. A lot of costume designs.
4. All sorts of set decorations.
5. A certain fight scene that is shot like the entirety of **1917**.
6. Pretty high cast salaries.
7. Several song licensings.
Can you guess what film that might be? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
half of people were revolting and nitpicking every single one of rachel zegler’s interviews about snow white while the other half were boycotting because of gal gadot lol. doomed from the beginning
Oh boy, quite possibly one of the most insufferable discourses of last year.
The threads were genuinely some of the worst interactions I’ve ever seen in this sub. I remember mentioning Rachel Zegler in a comment discussing the film and being labeled a stan and shill. I was like wtf I’m discussing the film.
With that said the entire project was completely scuffed. The budget is ballooning out of control. And non existent to negative wom led this film be a bomb. It failed in every aspect.
Never forget this movie faced a lot of backlash on Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, the seven dwarfs and the reshoots
It may have lost Disney millions, but let’s be honest they’ve had hit after hit for the past few years that I don’t think this really impacted them THAT much.
Had bomb written on it years before it came out
I think this movie had everything going against it: the sets caught fire, there were fights among the cast, changes to the original story, and a high budget. I think this is one of the few cases where a boycott actually worked.
The budget was $271 million. Unadjusted for inflation, it’s the 24th most expensive film of all time. Think about that for a minute.
It doesn’t look like it AT ALL. It’s a very visually ugly film.
One of those movies I genuinely don’t think anyone expected wouldn’t bomb, but few expected just how badly it did, just a complete catastrophe
This film was DOA even before it came out due to the toxic press it got
The discourse around this was 10x more exhausting than the movie itself.
I was at a Drive In and this was on the other screen, I turned my audio just in time for Gal’s song and I cried laughing, how did this ever get greenlit at such a budget number
Yea, controversies aside this was the most boring shit in the world
Reminder that people were seriously predicting 500m and even above.
