I saw it in IMAX last night and absolutely loved it… In a world that’s becoming increasingly fucked up, it’s nice to have a gentle reminder that hope still exists.

I feel like there’s many more headlines recently of “hasn’t happened since X” where x is within the last couple of years

  3. It’s truly a great movie. Although I am a fan of Andy Weir my expectations for this were “it’ll probably be pretty decent like The Martian.”

I laughed – I cried – I laughed and cried at the same time.

I go to the movies a lot but in the last decade I have not once gone to see the same movie twice . . .I intend to go see it again in imax next weekend.

  4. It was virtually ever wanted and I’m so happy the hype from House of R and other podcasts got me to read the book, cuz it’s certainly a new favorite

Glad to hear it. I’m a person that simply loves moviegoing. It’s my favorite hobby/activity.

I’m hoping this is a sign for a big movie year.

  6. Had multiple friends who aren’t typically huge opening weekend or movie people in general go see it and love it. Glad to see it’s resonating with people

Hollywood: “Wow, that’s amazing! …anyway, enjoy this new Transformers sequel.”

  8. I was a big fan of the book, when I heard Gosling was going to play Dr. Grace, I knew the film would be fantastic, and I’m happy to say it really was! They did a good job of adapting the book and Gosling as always is fantastic. Highly recommend it if you’re a fan of sci-fi and adventure, it’s phenomenal.

    AMAZE!

    AMAZE!

    AMAZE!

seriously though, what a fun and beautifully shot movie. It is the type of thing that should be driving people back to the cinema.

  10. I feel like this the first big budget movie with Gosling as the lead that’s actually become a hit. I feel like most of his stuff bombs even though he almost always picks good projects.

It’s a really good theater movie. Seeing it in a packed Dolby cinema theater was great.

I was looking at tickets for this coming Thursday to see it again, alot of the good seats are already taken.

Too bad hollywood won’t learn the right lessons from this.

Having a great story. Fantastic cinematography. Great acting.

Rocky is hilarious, but he doesn’t feel like he’s there just be the “comic relief”.

And the “action” is pretty well grounded. Lesser films would have had the entire sequence with Grace outside of the ship turning into something out of the last few Fast and Furious movies.

  13. Never would have thought that this movie would have gotten these numbers so fast. Beyond happy it did.

  14. It’s almost like people want to see movies that are built around good quality original source material….

  15. It’s a sign to them that people still want to see exciting, new movies with storylines that haven’t been regurgitated time and time again.

Studios have gotten extremely lazy pushing remakes and sequels.

There’s clearly still a market, they’re just not providing the product.

  16. Loved the movie. Pissed off the girlfriend with a joke during it too. Was great and worth it. >!if rocky dies do they chisel his name and dates and call it a gravestone?!<

  17. F1 just made 600+ mil last year…idk what is up with this discourse around PHM. Where headlines feel the need to lie to make it look better. Its doing really well isnt that enough?

  18. It’s almost like well-received movies with scale are the key to winning the box office with adult audiences, not big name actors or well-known properties. Ryan Gosling had been box office poison for so long, but Barbie and Project Hail Mary have really turned it around for him too, so major kudos to him.

  19. Saw it last night last night in IMAX and the theater was 90% full for an 8:15 PM showtime. We love to see it

i mean you make a good intelligent story that includes a space mystery, people are going to be curious on what’s it about. This is why i liked the show 3 body problems so much

Wasn’t the same said about sinners? Which was completely new IP and not based on a book or historical events?

Edit: looking at the numbers and PHM doubled sinners internationally first week.

  22. Imagine making just a good movie and people go watch it and spend money for it.
Silly hollywood its that easy. Stop making shitty bad movies and surprise you make money.

Maybe just maybe stop listening to some dumb managers and let people who know what they are doing just do what they do best.
