Dune is fucked and Doomsday will take a massive hit.

    There. Is. No. “Dunesday”.

This is going to fail and somebody needs to move before both studios regret it and this become a historic Hollywood fuck up.

Releasing on the same day is going to hurt Dune 3 more than it’s going to hurt Avengers, especially if Spider-Man blows up like it’s expected to and gets people excited about Marvel again right before Doomsday.

people are blowing this out of proportion tbh. even if they do end up releasing on the same day, at most it’ll only be like a $100m loss in gross for the both of them. Not the end of the world

    History of December 18, 2026

    2023: New Star Wars Movie

Mid-2024: Dune 3 gets set when it’s clear no Star Wars movie will happen.

Late 2024: Ice Age 6 replaces SW, going head to head with Dune.

Mid-2025: Avengers: Doomsday gets pushed to December while Ice Age moves to 2027.

Early 2026: Dune 3 gets IMAX locked up for three weeks, and Doomsday four trailers confirms it’s staying put.

  5. Personally getting a bit tired of this discourse. Is it a good idea to release both of these movies on the same day? No, probably not. Are Disney and WB doing it anyway? Yes, clearly. Both films will probably still be successful, but may not reach their full potential. Which is fine.

Dune Part 3 will probably land between 500-600 Mil WW. That’s a fine result for the trilogy capper. Doomsday will near-definitely do 1 Bil+, maybe even 1.5 Bil+ WW. Would Disney/Marvel like it to exceed 2 Bil? I’m sure, but it won’t be seen as a failure if it doesn’t.

  6. yes they could both succeed and profit but they could even make more if they’re not releasing on the same date. this will hurt both movies potential.

Disney missing out on +100 million from PLF screens for shits and giggles is one thing. If the reception for Doomsday is anything less than say Deadpool 3, they’re going to lose so much more.

They’ll be fine. I think Doomsday is going to take the critical reception bit though.

I still can’t believe this is happening I still expect one of them to move this isn’t a Barbieheimer situation they are both going after similar audiences

I’m less concerned with Doomsday vs Dune (*or “Dunesday”, if that actually ends up happening*) and more for Jumanji {*insert number here*}, which is releasing pretty closely to those two. It may get lost in the shuffle.

In fact, I’m more concerned regarding “The Avengers: Secret Wars” (2027) vs “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” (2027) next year. Both are currently scheduled for December 17th, and the six live action Middle Earth movies have all been bigger than the second Dune movie in 2024. More chomping at each other’s casual walk-up’s.

Dune won’t hurt for it, but people who believe it’s a billion dollar franchise will eventually blame the shared date when it finishes around the same totals as Dune 2 despite the holiday boost. It’ll own IMAX for a few weeks, but lose a whole lot of PLF screens to Marvel.

The narrative around the death of the MCU and the movie-loving adult infatuation with Dune seems to have people crossed up. A fan service marvel event film at Christmas is going to feast on the family demographic and the old MCU-stans will be there and likely check it out a second time once IMAX drops a few weeks later.

Nobody is really losing here, if anything Dune is status quo from a Nov release and Doomsday probably takes a slight opening weekend hit but makes it up and more a few weeks later.

  12. if marvel doesnt end up moving they’ll try to push for a joint event type thing, ala Barbenheimer in 2023.
