Tumblr updated reblogs to function more like tweets and users hate it. Each post in a reblog chain can now be liked, reblogged, and replied to directly.

You have no idea how mad we are in the hellsite right now. Literally every other post on my for you page is complaining about this and I’m reblogging every single one

not every site needs to be twitter!

God, I hope whoever okayed this change is honestly struck down. Smite them. Tumblr is my last existing natural habitat and I’m being pushed out of it 😭

You know it’s bad when you take the time to write a quintessential “strongly-worded email” to Tumblr support.

Honestly? I think I logged out of Tumblr for the last time back in 2014, I’d be surprised if it still had a significant user base

I genuinely haven’t seen a positive reaction to this update. Baffling how a blogging site with such a focus on community interaction would make a change so fundamental to how the site works that it would completely kill its USP. I’ve spent the last 24 hours trying to understand the business rationale behind it but I’ve come up short time and time again. It disincentivises creators of content to post, breaks the blocking functionality, and kills the ability to see all conversations around a piece of content (to the point where even the staff probably can’t see the sheer volume of feedback and have had to ask users to reply to a specific blog post to keep track.) It also makes it much, much easier for misinformation to be spread without appropriate fact checks from users/OPs who aren’t notified of additions to their posts further down the chain.

When was the porn massacre? That era where anything that looked like a titty got you hit, including those boob lights? That was the last time I logged on. Kinda surprised it’s not learned its lesson of leaving its users alone.

Anytime Tumblr comes up people are always like “omg people still use Tumblr?” and there’s always plenty of replies they do. Why we gotta go through this every single time it comes up.
