Well deserved to everyone!
GO KPOP DEMON HUNTERS!!!
Well overdue wins for PTA! I’ll die on the hill that Magnolia should’ve swept ages ago.
Train dreams deserved cinematography and Ethan Hawke for actor but all others were deserved
Let’s talk about some stuff.
Mibbij winning Best Actor is surprising. Also Madigan for her decaying witch.
Fantastic.
One Oscar After Another
Happy to see OBAA do so well at the Oscars – and rightfully so – but I really did think Leo’s performance was incredible and he nailed the ~~nuisances~~ nuances of the character so damn well. I know MBJ did a lot to differentiate his performance and bring two different characters to the screen, but I don’t think the overall impact of his performance was as impactful as Leo’s.
Leo getting frustrated at the phone operator, him vaping at that parent-teacher meeting, the mexican whistle… so many small things which brought that character to life. Man…
I was rooting for Sinners, but I have no problem with OBAA winning.
I’m here for Jessie Buckley winning Best Actress, she’s been killing it forever. Feels like the right year for her.
It’s too bad that Train Dreams didn’t win Cinematography. Legitimately one of the best looking films I’ve seen in years.
Fuck yeah. Not the best of PTA movies, but well deserved Oscar
i thought leo should get best actor and sinners get best picture.
One Battle After Another and Sinners really owned the night.
Also love seeing KPop Demon Hunters and Jessie Buckley get their moment.
My favorite movie of the year was Marty Supreme. Not sure why it got nothing
Leo is just too elite to let a movie not win.. he’s just too damn important
Wagner, Stellan, and Inga, it’s ok you guys don’t need the Academy
I’m so sad Train Dreams didn’t win anything, especially cinematography. What a beautiful looking and feeling movie.
De Luca and Abdy really rebounded and saved their jobs and then some. I’m sure Paramount will deem them too expensive and or expendable though once the check clears like the boneheads they are
Aw man I was hoping sentimental value would get at least one acting win, but honestly can’t be mad at this years results. So happy to see PTA get his flowers
So happy for PTA! His speeches are so humble and the fact he was nervous.
Cool
Nobody who actually watched Blue Moon thinks MBJ was better than Ethan Hawke lmao
I’m thrilled OBAA won the big prize, but going punch for punch with Sinners made the show much more entertaining and suspenseful
One Battle After Another was insanely good, so well deserved.
Although I wanted *It Was Just an Accident* to win Best International Film because it’s a phenomenal movie, and either Ethan Hawke or Wagner Moura to win Best Actor, all the winners were wholly deserving.
Chase Infiniti… save me…
Chase Infiniti
save me Chase Infiniti…
Between PTA mentioning the 1975 gauntlet and Conan letting it be known Coogler doesn’t want to join the Academy because he doesn’t want to judge films, we should all be taking a page from them and realizing how fucking dumb it is to be arguing that a movie is better than another movie.
Last year was an excellent year for movies, and we all won.
No mayor surprises, very happy for PTA.
The show moved fast, it was entertaining, the In Memoriam segment was very well done, and Conan once agains knockes it out of the park.
Conan killed it, and i really hope that Mr. Beast is not the presenter next year and that it was just another jab atyoutube
Overall, really happy with the winners. As others are saying, Jesse Plemons was robbed of a nominee, and really wish train dreams got cinematography
Congrats to MBJ but I also would not have been surprised if Moura took it home. Definitely see the secret agent of you haven’t yet!
Some thoughts:
* Well-deserved wins including Best Picture for OBAA. One Battle and Sinners have to prob be our best winner and runner-up in a long time.
* PTA going for 10+ Oscar losses to 3 in one night is great to see.
* Coogler and PTA both going home with Oscars is my favorite thing of the night imo
* Adam Somner posthumously wins as a producer of OBAA after passing away in 2024. He has been a longtime
* All 4 SAG Actor Award winners won – Jordan, Buckley, Madigan, Penn. Half of these from horror movies is crazy.
* Michael B Jordan is the sixth winner of Best Actor. Jordan’s last minute surge really helped him. Poor Chalamet though, campaigned all that just to lose again in the end, but losing BAFTA and SAG to a performance in a stronger movie was always a bad sign. Jordan was likely #2 in BAFTA at this point. I would even argue Chalamet lost not because of his campaigning but because the Academy just liked Sinners better.
* Jessie Buckley is the first ever Irish winner of Best Actress. Buckley acting all shocked she won when she was the only sweeper is taking me out lol
* Sean Penn has a terrible reputation, barely campaigned and didn’t even show up but still won, king shit lol
* Amy Madigan being one the statbreakers in which she didn’t even get nominated in BAFTA and was the lone nominee and still won, damn. I love the look Ed Harris gave her when she won too. She is the first lone nominee acting winner since Julianne Moore.
* Biggest surprise for me was the swap between Cinematography and Casting. OBAA won all precursors in Cinematography but Sinners prevailed in the end with a historic win as the first woman who won, and the first black winner and first female Asian winner at that. All categories now have had female winners. People largely predicting Sinners for Casting since Francine Maisler is a legend but OBAA prevailed, and it is deserved for discovering Chase Infiniti lol. Love her jab she won before PTA lmfao
* Norway gets its first ever win in International Feature!
* Live Action Short getting a tie is insane as well, first since 2012, but I’m happy it’s the best 2 nominees lol.
* Girl Who Cried Pearls was a surprise for me since Animated Short tends to be English-language or domestically made but it did get Annie love and had no dialogue so the stats continue.
* Ludwig Goransson is insane lol already at Oscar #3 and might even get a 4th next year
* Kpop Demon Hunters completing its Animated & Song sweep. Hate how they played off the other Golden writer winner.
* All the other tech winners – Frankenstein winning all design awards, F1 winning Sound, OBAA winning Editing, Avatar 3 winning VFX – were expected.
The only categories that rub me the wrong way are casting and directing…
I mean, casting is new so I’m not really sure what the measure of judgment is there, but I found it more impressive to assemble the cast of Hamnet than OBAA especially considering the great performances all the kids gave. Which ties directly into directing. I value it higher to deliver such a movie if you’re highest profile actors are Paul Mescal and Emily Watson compared to Leo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro.
Which brings me back to casting… I hope this doesn’t just become the award for managing to sign on the most biggest stars which feels like an easy trap to fall into.
And while I’m totally fine with KPop Demon Hunters winning, I’m a little sad that it didn’t go to Arco or Little Amelie, which I thought were just a little more interesting and unique storytelling wise as well as visually.
Sinners winning anything for its screenplay is hilarious. Its plotting is absolutely terrible. So many plot holes and absolutely stupid characters.
Ludwig Göransson has now won 3 Oscars for best score, impressive stuff.
(Previous wins, Black Panther and Oppenheimer)
Honestly one of the most unpredictable Oscars in a while.
So many unexpected wins:
Sentimental Value over Secret Agent
Frankenstein winning ANY award lol
The best live action ties
For sure, I thought Sinners would win more but OBAO was the stronger film. Just wish PTA would have been more political in his thank you speeches.
Can’t wait for Two Battles After Another and Sinners 2: The Sindacite. Oscars 2029 gonna be a banger.
Well deserved by Jessie Buckley. She was absolutely amazing in Hamnet. I literally can’t even imagine the movie with a different actress. It’s her movie.
