This is the kind of movie poll I actually find interesting because it is not just about what critics think. A new YouGov survey says Sinners is both the movie Americans are most likely to say should win Best Picture and the one they think will win too.
That made me curious how much public opinion really lines up with the Academy, and whether a movie being the popular pick actually helps or means nothing once voting closes.
Do you think the public favorite usually gets it right, or does Oscar buzz live in a completely different world?

It should be disqualified for that absolutely horrid 3rd act.
I liked it better the first time I saw it when it was called From Dusk til Dawn.
I am absolutely shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that Republicans aren’t interested in *Sinners.*
I just can’t imagine why.
The music scene is such a great scene.
I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I don’t think it deserved the huge amount of Oscar noms it got, and I don’t think it was the best film of the year.
I’m gonna get slaughtered for saying this, but Sinners is very mid. Then again, I liked Birdman and the general public thought it was okay.
Was entertaining but prefer the original Dusk til Dawn
Really good movie. I thought One Battle was a lot better though. But if Sinners won, I guess I wouldn’t be that upset.
One Battle had more originality and was a better movie overall but Sinners was easily 1A this year.
I think *Train Dreams* will age better. Too bad it doesn’t seem to be a real contender
Remember when The Shape of Water won Best Picture and Best Director? The Oscars are a sham.
Look.
I didn’t hate it, but the bottom line is it was an over 2 hour long vampire movie that took like 1h45m before the vampire part kicked in.
The lead up was WAY too long. The person I watched it with felt the same. The burn was way too slow. We had to have a short dicussion about 1.5 hours in whether we were going to finish it or not.
On top of that, it just isn’t Best Picture material unless we’re all acknowledging it was a bad year for movies. It was basically From Dusk Till Dawn, but half an hour longer and less fun.
The internet is going to be awful after One Battle After Another wins Best Picture and PTA wins Director.
Sinners is a good movie, but it’s this year’s movie that people are weird about and this year’s movie that’s the favorite of people who only saw five new releases
These comments show I absolutely live in another universe lol
I really liked it, but best film of the year? Nah. Same with OBATO to be fair.
It’s got one great scene, half an hour of good and the rest is a lot of meh
6,5/10 seems fair
The number of nominations and the hype is crazy
I feel like im being gaslit into thinking Coogler’s movies are Oscar worthy
First with Black Panther and now Sinners. I enjoyed Sinners but at no point did I ever think it should be Best picture worthy
Sinners was ok. It was a ripoff of from dusk till dawn.
I loved Sinners but this is absurd pandering.
Not even close
I’m just here for whitebread Reddit shitting their pants
The really interesting matchup to me is Sinners vs Bugonia for best score.
Of the best pic nominees I’ve seen, it’s OBAA on lock for me.
And I still can’t believe Apple TVs racecar commercial got nominated.
I didn’t think it was very good at all 🤷🏽♀️
Ugh, I feel like I missed out on something.
My brothers told me that Sinners was the best in-theatre experience they’ve had in a long time.
I didn’t make it out to see it, I watched it on streaming, and while I enjoyed it well enough, I didn’t understand what everyone was going crazy over.
It reminded me a lot of From Dusk Till Dawn where it’s telling one story then, all of a sudden, vampires.
It just didn’t do much for me.
I’m just glad I got to see Sinners in 70mm and love it before everyone told me it wasn’t anything special. Maybe not to you, but that theatre experience was still the best of the year all around, so to me, that makes for a worthy Best Picture
Blows my mind. The different ages of music scene was really well done but I remember fighting to stay awake. It wasn’t a very entertaining film and I like MBJ but his acting was overdone I felt.
Honestly didn’t think it was that good of a film. Nor MBJ being the Best Actor favorite.
Great production, great music, great first half of the film…mediocre 2nd half.
So all in all a good movie…Just not the best of the year. It was a fairly weak year though, so it’s still up there.
