I’ll reserve judgment on the film itself (and I like Riz Ahmed), but what are people’s takes on these modern reimaginings of Shakespeare plays? I’ve always preferred adaptations that stick to the original settings; the period costuming and set design is half the fun for me.

  2. First Hamnet, then Scarlet, now this? I’m starting to think this “Hamlet” was a pretty popular story.

  3. Dang, movie is out in less than a month and already been to a ton of festivals and they just now got around to making a 1st poster for it.

Instead of doing a “modern retelling”, which basically translates to “We’re going to butcher it because we’re not creative enough to come up with our own original ideas”.

They should try to be actually creative and create a story nobody has heard before.

I do like remixes, but these remixes are such low effort and lack imagination.

Let’s be real. When you decide to put those stars on your poster, that means your movie isn’t all that good

Difficult not to like Riz Ahmed after Sound of Metal.

But the dude deserves to be on more things.

I don’t want to be a hater but Is there not fatigue from the Shakespeare remake/reimagining over saturation. Most of them don’t make a profit.

  9. Nobody has adapted Shakespeare better than Vishal Bharadwaj, he takes the core of the story, to a transcendent level…..

  10. I’m gonna be honest, I read “modern reimagining” and roll my eyes. I know it can be done well, that’s probably an overreaction, but it starts to feel like blatant pandering pretty quickly.

“It’s a modern reimagining of Frankenstein where the monster is a social media app instead of a guy. That’s the kind of sick shit you like, right young people?”

Reminds me of that Onion headline “Unconventional Director Sets Shakespeare Play In Time, Place Shakespeare Intended”

EVERY TIME I see a new Ahmed movie, all I can think to myself is, “It’s the Guy from Four Lions!! Good for him!” But I’ve never actually watched any of his other movies. But I still support his career, in spirit.

  13. There’s already a modern day one with Ethan Hawke, so even the supposed new concept isn’t new.
