10 Cloverfield Lane was released 10 years ago this weekend. The second film in the Cloverfield franchise, the $15 million film received positive reviews and was a box office success, grossing $72.2 million domestically and $110 million worldwide. It was followed by 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox.

great film
Great franchise!
It feels connected to Cloverfield, but it impressively still stands on its own instead of forcing the lore.
Acting was great across the board (John Goodman being terrifying is something I’d never thought I see), and very intense throughout.
There’s gonna be a new film that acts as a true sequel to the original with Babak Anvari directing, and it won’t use the found footage style, and that’s all we know about it.
There is some additional information about this movie that I want to add:
* Originally, the film was developed from a script titled *The Cellar*. During production by Bad Robot, it was turned into a spiritual successor to the 2008 film Cloverfield. The project was also kept largely secret.
* Like *Cloverfield*, a viral marketing campaign was used that included elements of an alternate reality game. The campaign revealed backstory details about the character Howard Stambler and his daughter.
* Speaking of The Cloverfield Paradox, like *10 Cloverfield Lane*, it originally began as an independent film called *God Particle* (with its own original concept). Only during production did J. J. Abrams decide to connect the film to the *Cloverfield* universe. The film was also delayed several times before a surprise trailer was released during Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018, revealing the final title and announcing its release on Netflix immediately after the game instead of Paramount (because the budget ballooned to over $45 million from an initial $5 million and Paramount did not think it would be profitable). But the movie received negative reviews despite unique marketing tactics were praised.
One of the best thrillers of the last decade.
I still remember leaving the theater after seeing it and being blown away by the twist ending.
