With Scream 7’s box office run being a major topic here lately (for better or worse), I thought it’d be interesting to see when you all think Scream 8 should release.

If the rumors about 8 already being in pre-production are true and it’s just waiting on an official greenlight, with filming potentially starting this fall, my guess is that the studio might target April of next year. That would basically repeat the timeline we saw before, since Scream VI released about 14 months after Scream (2022). If Paramount/Spyglass want to keep momentum going and capitalize on the franchise being active again, a similar turnaround wouldn’t be surprising.

That said, I think the smarter move would be October next year. It would give them more breathing room to develop the script and production, which could help avoid another entry that’s critically mixed and potentially improve legs at the box office. It would also be the first time a Scream film released in October, which feels like an obvious marketing angle given how strongly Ghostface is associated with Halloween.

If they did go the October route, I definitely wouldn’t put it on the first weekend since The Batman Part II is scheduled there and could dominate the market. The following weekend might still be risky depending on its hold, so something like October 15 right in the middle of Halloween season feels like a safer play. There are also rumors the next Saw film might target Halloween as well. If that happens, it would be interesting to see whether Scream tries to claim that corridor or if Lionsgate moves Saw earlier like they did with Saw X when Five Nights at Freddy’s was opening.

i definitely think it needs to go september-october for Scream 8. Scream 7 was pretty bad and I think the only way you get close to those numbers for Scream 8 is if you market it like a “halloween event” film (much like Conjuring 4 did)

Paramount has a untitled horror event for July 16th 2027 but I dunno feels a bit too soon, they also have quiet place for that July so too close. Scream 1 & 2 released during the holidays but Secret Wars will be a big behemoth that year. I’d say Q1 2028 at the latest (EmpireBO recently said Universal is currently planning to drop FNAF 3 in Fall 2027, I don’t know how reliable he Is as a “scooper“ but it’s highly likely anyways so I’ll veto the fall)

Box office wise, I’d say winter of 2028, quality wise, I’d say to let this franchise rest

If Paramount wants to go ballsy maybe Oct 15th or 29th of 2027. Fnaf 3 is likely going on one of those dates and those movies drop off a cliff fast so competition won’t really be a big deal. Ik The Batman 2 will be opening Oct 1 but that’s also a different genre and will either be on weekend 3 or 5. Plus Halloween could bring in more hype especially after the poor reception of 7. If not just play it safe and do Q1 2028

  5. Scream movies have only ever released December-April. Summer and Fall and more particularly October has never happened over 7 movies & 30 years

Unless the script is done and they’re ready to shoot next week, I think it gets made in late 2026/early 2027 for a 2028 Q1 release

They should rush it out with a cast of unknowns and drop it on Paramount+ this July with zero fanfare.

With rumors of a Christmas setting – I have no basis for this other than “I read it on Reddit and hope it happens” – a fall release would make sense. I’m not sure if that would over-saturate with other horror films, but taking advantage of the Halloween/holiday season would work if true.

If it’s a Christmas setting, it should go to late November so it can run through the holidays as the main event horror film.

If it’s any other setting, early October would be ideal.

Guessing 2028 since they’re probably gonna take time to course correct what went wrong with 7

It would probably be smart to take it slower than the Scream 1/2 or 5/6 gaps. Give it until 2028. Give people a little break, and take your time ironing out the script and making sure it’s ready for prime time.

If they rush out another ~30% RT movie, I believe they will be surprised at how quickly theatrical demand for this franchise will collapse. Especially because a year would not be that long of a break; people had three years to miss the franchise before 7, and even more than that to miss Sidney. They should take the criticisms of 7 to heart and do some serious quality control.
