My wife and I started buying a lot of physical media for Christmas and Halloween movies because it took 19 streaming services to get everything we wanted at the proper time of year not to mention everything ends the day after the holiday.

Maybe a service should start offering 4k UHD remux streaming? Same quality with less plastic waste.

I started a physical collection last year and at this point, I cannot stop. Now I can watch something from my curated collection at any time, even when the internet is out.

I like to own physical copies of my favorite titles. It’s just nice knowing I have them.

What great news, I think that physical support, for films, TV series and video games, is always a great reason to feel these stories as something “your own”, without the risk of them being removed from the platforms for some reason and losing them completely.

We use streaming to find out what we want to own.
At this point we own more bluray/4k than books, though we read more books than we watch bluray/4k. I think our priorities might be wrong.

Time for folks to discover the magical world of ripping your own dvds and making a plex library. Ever since I started mine it’s been a game changer not having to worry about what streaming service has what anymore

IASIP needs some Blu-ray action.
I know all about the image quality issues. Don’t care. Release a complete set, WITH controversial episodes at once!

I’ve been buying more than a decade ago, and I will likely continue buying the occasional persona high value movie (3-5 per year).
However, I think we need to keep our expectations in check.
Bluray sales are unlikely to ever match or rival streaming “rental” / subscription numbers, or come back to bluray rental numbers of old unless there’s some sort of cataclysmic shift back to physical video rental stores.
I’m old and I used to love going to rental stores. But I think most people see value in not owing or renting physical media in large quantities.
The new reality will most likely need to be a balance of subscription and physical purchases.
