Embracing is probably a strong word. DVD sales are a tiny fraction of what they were

“Declined just 9% in 2025 compared to 20% in 2024”
That’s a smaller drop after years of substantial drops. The baseline is small now.

Maybe it’s because studios keep deciding on a whim what gets to stay on their streaming services and what gets banished to the void?

I’ve never stopped. Although, since the introduction of Blu-ray, I try to get those Blu-ray+DVD combos.

I can’t understand why someone would buy DVDs instead of 4K Blu-rays for their physical media collection. It isn’t like Vinyl that gets you a higher quality media, DVDs are worse quality than any streaming out there.

DVDs play at an unwatchable quality to me. Blu Rays are mostly indistinguishable from 4Ks in most cases IMO

I’m Gen Z (25 years old) and I personally prefer having physical media, because at least there, you actually own it. Its your own copy of the film. Meanwhile streaming services can take off various films or tv-shows on their platform, leading to it to be hard to watch outside of piracy.
