This film falls in a weird place. It is not faithful to book fans, nor is it satisfying to fans who want a horny smut film, and it falls in a middle where it is just meh.
I don’t see how this film grosses even 80 mil domestically. Like a 30-40 percent of final gross comes from just valentines day itself.

I’m hearing that the film isn’t fun and that’s the kiss of death. If the film was fun anachronistic smut with likable characters like Bridgeton is then honestly it would be able to get past its controversies but it sounds like it isn’t so it’s over for it. It will underperform. I also think that Robbie and Elordi are a weird pairing. It has nothing to do with an age gap because that’s not a big enough age gap to matter and male actors usually have 10 to 20 years over their female love interests. I think that individually they’re exciting for their fan bases but together? I don’t see it.

I feel like it’s haul is pretty normal for a period piece romance film. They tried to Barbify the whole thing but really it just lacks the relevance to be a huge hit.

I honestly don’t get it 🤷. Anecdotal, of course, but me and a bunch of friends from different friend groups loved it? Isabelle is queen. It wasn’t a perfect movie by any means but enjoyable
