$3M previews for Wuthering Heights. Initial word of mouth seems fine. Should play well over Valentine’s Day on Saturday and Presidents’ Day extended weekend. Expecting $40M+ 4-day weekend.

  1. That checks out. WOM seems better domestically than internationally (which was disastrous) for sure. In my screening, there were a lot of women crying when credits rolled, and the girl next to me mentioned wanting to rewatch it when it hit streaming. So it seems good, but not good enough for repeat theater visits.

  2. Wait… why are the numbers all over the place? 40 mil 3day, 40 mil 4day, 50 mil 4day and one person even said 50 mil 3day.

Its going be a poor walk up movie but with tonight and tomorrow having great pre sales the opening weekend will look fine but its going to collapse after the holiday.

  4. Presales for this look really weak near me, not indicating anything close to $50M, even for the four day. I’m guessing closer to $35M than $50M by Monday.

  5. Funny that some people attacked me two weeks ago me when I’ve mentioned few BOT users were predicting 70+ / 3-day for months but last few weeks targets were already quietly moving.

  6. As I’ve been saying for a while this is going to be a money loser for WB. 80M budget, Puck reporting 85M on marketing. Some of the BO tracker guys were claiming it was going to hit 70M over the long weekend, now it’s looking like somewhere between 40-50 instead. And it will plummet like a stone next weekend, plus international won’t be as β€œstrong” as domestic. I’ll be surprised if this comes close to 200M in the end.

Looks like the numbers might be headed in a disappointing direction. Nothing concrete yet though. I’m not a fan of Fennell so I won’t cry if the numbers are disappointing.

  8. As always: One movie part of genre/audience gets underestimated by people here and explodes, then the next movie targeting that same audiences gets hyped up being a huge hit only to get overestimated by people here and do softer numbers

  9. I went last night by myself, and the audience was surprisingly muted. Only Isabella got any real laughs. There were more squeals going in than going out. And as a straight woman, all of this was mostly boring to me. It’s not Saltburn campy. It’s not really fun, which was I kind of hoping for when seeing it in the theater. Or book accurate, but I don’t think GA gives a shit.

I talked to my friend who loves Jacob Elordi and she was also mostly bored too. So I will be interested to see what the CinemaScore is.

Oh geez… those numbers for the 4 day weekend aren’t looking good as expected for Wuthering Heights from its estimated $50M projection
