Valentine’s / President’s Day weekend shaping up very nicely. For the 4-day weekend, looks like $50m+ for WB’s Wuthering Heights, $25m+ for Sony’s GOAT and teens for Amazon’s Crime 101

  1. It’s been a very nice year so far for new and original/non-IP movies so far. Hopefully this continues with good original and franchise movies.

Don’t think I’ve ever felt more confident about a post-COVID year.

Starting this weekend, we’re now entering a streak of something major almost every week with very little downtime (like maybe two or three) until August. Even though Mario is 47 days, there’s still a decent slate before then.

When I went to the theater today at 3:30 it was dead. Like the staff were surprised to see someone and scrambling to get their equipment now that they had business dead. And I was the only one in my 3D Goat screening. I don’t consider that a bad thing. How many people actually go to animated films during the school year, in 3D, on a Thursday afternoon? Every time it’s just been people like me who don’t work on Thursday’s and grandparents/parents taking their kid out early for the day. After the movie the lobby got a lot more lively but I’ve seen busier too. I feel like that’ll be tomorrow night or Saturday all day.

GOAT was good. Yes it was insanely formulaic but it was well made that you just sat back and enjoyed the presentation. It definitely doesn’t feel story driven with each beats existing to exist but eh, not every movie has to be a masterpiece. Despite my pessimism it was worth giving it a shot!
