Sure, ‘Melania’ Did Great for a Documentary, but That Doesn’t Mean It Over-Performed – With a $7 million opening weekend, it’s the highest opening for a non-music doc in over a decade, but the $75 million price tag for Amazon tells a different story.

  1. They should not have spent nearly so much on it. Unless they renewed federal contracts as part of the cost, none of the answers to “what the *fuck* did they spend it on?” are good. Cause even $11 million is an absurd price tag for what a bunch of GoPros can do just fine.

  2. In other words, if we’re fairly judging the financial performance of this investment *as a movie,* it bombed.

If you wanna make the argument that the real ROI is a bribe to Trump, then that’s something totally different.

Amazon took a bribe from the administration. I’m sure they’ll happily take the loss on this one in exchange for total impunity from whatever extremely shitty thing they’re planning to do in the future

If we judged it by normal standards it was an embarrassing bomb but if we judge it by itself then it’s a huge success!

  5. Can the media stop washing this? It didn’t cost them 75 million. It was a fucking bribe.
