Republican candidate for Minnesota Governor Chris Madel drops out of the race. “I can’t look my daughters in the eye and say I’m running as a Republican, when they’re pulling over Hispanics and Asians because of the color of the skin… I did not sign up for that”.

  1. Hope my estranged MAGA dad is taking notes…

—jk, he won’t see this because it won’t be on Fox or Newsmax or OAN 🫠

He absolutely did sign up for this by virtue of being in the party to begin with. I am inclined to believe he just has buyer’s remorse because it’s a bad look to the coveted 2A advocate demographic now.

I mean look it’s never too late but dang I wouldn’t be able to have looked my daughters in the eye *much* before all this

  4. Yeah you don’t get to say “this isn’t what you signed up for” after 10 years of Trump. This is exactly what you signed up for. You just don’t want to get blood on your shoes

  5. He had in fact signed up for that. He was just hoping they would do it in other states so he wouldn’t face blowback.

Yeah, I’m calling bullshit. He could have run as an independent. Something else is going on.

You chose to run as a Republican when their policies supported pulling over black people because of the color of their skin… so what’s the difference now, my guy?? This isn’t admirable when it’s clear you’re only speaking out because it’s affecting your brand and not because you’re deprogramming your racism.

If this guy didn’t perceive the blatant racism of the GOP long before now, he’s pathetically slow on the uptake; so I have to think something else is driving this. The only thing that would make him seem credible to me would be if he also resigned from the Republican Party.

Good for him for doing the right thing and exactly what so many of us are begging for by deciding enough is enough. I hope he doesn’t stop there and educates himself properly to recognize the throughline from what he supported/supports to what has been happening in Minnesota. This is in fact what he signed up for, he just was able to ignore that until now

This is nothing. Wait until you find out the full story of [Lisa Demuth, the other Republican candidate.](https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5668078-minnesota-welfare-fraud-walz/)

She is the one that fed that half-literate “rEpOrTer” Nick Shirley years old information of already adjudicated fraud in order to supercharge anti-Somali bigotry in Minneapolis. She fed him all of the information he used to “report” on an already dead story, to present it as if it was current, ongoing, and FAR more expansive.

She is the reasoning Trump/Miller/Vance used to flood Minneapolis with ICE/CPB agents. 100% pure racebaiting.

But he is okay to run as a republican when they are taking women’s rights away? Weird hill to die on, especially having daughters.

nah I don’t buy it, you have seen this set up for years to come…yet now you decide to acknowledge it

  13. The good guys cant finish last man. This is the time to stand up! Be the Republican you want your daughters to see!

  14. It’s good to see that there are still true Republicans out there. Especially ones with a spine

  15. I guess this is good but I find it EXTREMELY hard to celebrate these people who are supposedly finally opening their eyes. They’ve been fine with this for years. He was/is part of party that supports and encourages this. It’s like when people say they used to support Trump but no longer do. Good I guess? And I know we should reach across the aisle blah blah blah and embrace people changing their views but I’m sorry it is so so so so hard to forgive these people. And frankly I still don’t trust them that their views are truly changed.

  16. But he could look them in the eye before and say “fuck your healthcare and bodily autonomy”

  17. This is completely unserious, especially since he found no issue assisting the killer of a woman, who was also a mother. I am tickled by the specificity of the races though, especially with the administration spilling so much vile rhetoric around Somali refugees. It’s very, “I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at Animal Cruelty”.

Why make space for a faithful servant? Or is it understood that he would have no free will under the party.

  19. Hope he doesnt try and come back as an Independent or Dem. No redemption in MN after siding with Trump.

Ok, seems like he might be a decent guy. Don’t know him personally, but I approve of this sentiment.
