All things considered (blizzard, bad reviews), this is pretty solid. Obviously still going to lose money though

Terrible number. Under Flight Risk from last year. The difference is Flight Risk had only a 25m budget vs 60m for Mercy.

  3. Really hoping next weekend’s openers perform better because these past few weeks have been terrible for new releases.

Geez… it’s been really rough for this weekend aim the winter storms where Mercy made less then Flight Risk opening weekend of $11.6M

Hopefully next weekend will see a recovery for those movies compared to what 2016 did when it got hit by a massive winter storms

with sunday basically getting wiped out, are we absolutely SURE that avatar some won’t pull an upset here?

Even with this snowstorm? I’m up here in PA and no one’s driving anywhere. The roads are ass

  8. I wonder what the IMAX and premium format numbers are for it, heard it was a massive bomb for IMAX. I think the only reason Avatar dropped was lack of the premium formats or otherwise it would have around $10m.

Mercy is an obvious bomb tho, original projections were at least double this and now it barely pulled $11m. sure you can argue the winter storms are a factor but i think the writing was on the wall for this either way and i see its daily under $1m by Monday, maybe slightly up for Tuesday. Wouldn’t be surprised to see IMAX split screens back to Avatar for next week, but im sure they aren’t looking forward to Crime 101 now, but Project Hail Mary has potential and should be a hit.

Thinking the box office is going to be pretty light the next few weeks, unless Wuthering Heights over performs but I don’t see it doing insane numbers, more just solid.

Next week Send Help and Iron Lung might cannibalize each other, thinking $15 & $10m opening but it really depends on if either had enough marketing and I haven’t even seen a trailer for the later. but Markiplier is one of the biggest creators (arguably most unproblematic too) with a loyal fanbase so with a proper wide release it could be huge. Shelter from Statham is also up next week but I see that doing similar or less than A Working Man, but there is a specific demo for that type of film anyways, could be anywhere from $7.5-15m. Overall a split box office next week with massive drops from Mercy and no recovery for The Bone Temple (much to my dismay), Avatar still solid with at least $5m but I wonder where it lands in the top 5.
