  1. This makes no sense.

Didn’t Variety just say $14.2M? Also If its really $13.3M then how is Disney expecting it to make almost $4M on Monday after a $4.1M Sunday?

There’s trickery afoot here. Either a serious lowball on the Sunday number from Disney or we’re heading for a low $16M 4 day weekend.

  2. Still number 1 this weekend. I think it should be number 1 next weekend as well somehow. I think other films underperforming is the reason.

Imagine telling people here a year ago that Avatar Fire and Ash would be limping to 400m domestic by MLK weekend. The downvotes would hit triple digits

Apparently the Sunday drop estimate is 31% which is WAY too high. And Monday being flat is basically impossible. I think it’ll have a strong Monday but I’ve never seen the studio lowball like this. Even Zootopia 2 seems like a massive lowball

  5. It’s rich. Cameron was worried this would underperform to the point he promised to do a press conference to announce this being the finale.

Looks like it’s going ok to me.

  6. A3 will lose 70-80% of A1 ticket sales in North America despite US+Canada population growing by 50M since 2009. That’s just crazy.

  7. If it does indeed get to 5 weekends at number one that’s a success even if it’s less that 1 and 2. I believe 2 got to 6 or 7 weekends at number one and avatar 1 got 7?

while the drop is disappointing I think with Disney crushing it with LILO and Zootopia 2 it’s a nice additional feather in their cap.

Finally got to see it last night and the theater was pretty full (although it was the IMAX 3D, so perhaps not the other screenings). Got out at like 12:20am for an 8:30pm showing so I’m sure some people might have hesitated.
