I stand corrected. I thought the whole film was shot digitally.

I see multiple photos of people with ear muffs, furnies over gear, and/or face shields. Does anyone have info on what was happening that they were protecting themselves from?

Man I love this movie. Really captures LA at night. And the sound (when you have a good system) of that alleyway shooting is so good.
Also funny story, was driving home in LA late at night and a coyote walks past me exactly like the movie. Immediately thought of that scene.

Michael Mann asked Tom Cruise to dress up as a delivery man and deliver packages in a mall to help him become ‘unseen’ in a public place, one of the traits his character has.
Great film, only watched it for the first time recently. My only caveat is that the framing is, for the most part, incredibly boring. Almost all dialogue is head and shoulders mid-shots, the lighting in the cab is bad, etc. it has a few great shots and then nothing but soap-opera level framing. Apparently Mann had a fight with and fired the DP early during shooting so…not surprised I noticed it had serious issues.
HOWEVER the rest of the film is really pretty strong and makes up for it. The directing was pretty strong. This is the only time I’ve really seen Tom Cruise play a different character than normal and it works well.

It’s up there as movies go for me & a bit different for Tom to play the bad guy & he did it well . I still wonder how the actress managed to stay upright in those running scenes with those heels on ?

Why is it that for some scenes, they more or less just needed cameras to film them, yet, apparently, for some other scenes, they needed an entire truck full of electronics?

Awesome movie
I love Michael Mann movies. Yes, even Miami Vice.
