In Adolescence Of Utena (1999), the reveal that Touga drowned years ago is foreshadowed during the scenes where Utena speaks to him, as he appears near some source of water. The first is when it’s raining, and the second is when they’re by an empty swimming pool.

This movie is absolutely stunning – from the music, to the animation and especially the voice acting. The scene when we learn about what happened to Touga never fails to make me cry.
