In Alien (1979), the crew of Nostromo is told they were awakened due to an “acoustical beacon”. This turns out to be fabricated as “in space, no one can hear you scream”

It’s acoustical because it is an audio message, not that it was being broadcast as sound.
Do you know how deafeningly loud an audio source would have to be to continue at that distance even if it was reverberating through an atmosphere? The sound from a nuclear blast doesn’t travel that far. You’re talking enough energy to destroy anything on that side of the planet.

Thanks for wasting everyone’s time.
Maybe sound can’t travel in space, but radio waves sure can.
