In Saving Private Ryan (1998), Caparzo is targeted by the sniper for appearing to give orders, foreshadowed by an earlier scene warning Upham not to salute the Captain for this reason.
His warning to Upham, “Every time you salute the captain, you make him a target for the Germans. Do us all a favor, and don’t do it. Especially when I am standing next to him.”
That’s interesting, never thought that’s why he may have been shot here. Just thought it was bad luck that it was him to be hit.

He was shot because he was standing in the open. It had nothing to do with giving orders.
