Or bear with me here, Maui’s hook resembles a traditional Pacific Islander fishhook which also have been worn as necklaces throughout their history…
I don’t think it’s a reference to Moana at all. That fish hook necklace is symbolic in Hawaii culture and isn’t just something from Moana.
