The bed was first shown as Leonidas and Gorgo shared their intimate moments the night before Leonidas left for war. At this moment, Sparta was yet to be invaded, as well as their private space.

After Leonidas left for war without the council’s consent, Gorgo met with a loyalist who was willing to help her speak to the council to send reinforcements to Leonidas. They met in her bedchamber, and the same bed could be seen in the background (2nd pic). Her and her husband’s private space, just like Sparta, was already been invaded as Gorgo told the loyalist that her bedchamber was the only safe place for them to meet home because Councilman Theron (who betrayed Sparta) would easily eavesdrop their meeting.

Gorgo later met with Theron and was forced to offer herself to get his support. When Theron pushed Gorgo to the wall and raped her at the entrance of her bedchamber, her bed was shown again in the background (3rd pic). This echoed with the scene in which Gorgo and Leonidas passionately made love in the same bed and showed that both of them had made huge sacrifices trying to protect their land and space.

The bed was also mentioned by Theron when he betrayed Gorgo in front of the council as he lied that Gorgo also offered herself body to the loyalist: “Was he not, by your invitation, asked to come to the king's bedchamber? The very bed where you attempted to negotiate with me so vigorously?” Although it was a lie, the bed actually was shown during the scene in which Gorgo and the loyalist had their private meeting.
