This is Stage 1 of the old Elstree Studios. It’s the same stage where they previously built the interior for the Mos Eisley cantina in *Star Wars: A New Hope*. After *Empire*, this stage went on to host the Ark opening scene in *Raiders* and the nightclub in *Temple of Doom*.
Anyway, the site is a parking lot now.
One of the best uses of matte painting in film history. Gave audiences vertigo.
I’ll take a mat painting over a green screen any day.
