Love the scene where they realize the safeties are off. “Draw.”

Really solid movie, but interestingly it doesn’t actually explore the concept of artificial intelligence itself all that deeply. I happened to see it after watching the first (and only) season of the HBO series, and it was a pleasant surprise despite the different focus. The airtight room bit was dumb though.
But more to the point of this scene, it was very well done, and worth noting that this is just the culmination of a much longer pursuit. The gunslinger character is a lot more menacing when you see him effortlessly navigate his own environment before facing some technological limitations with the optics here.

This movie holds up incredibly well, mostly by virtue of being very ahead of its time.

This pacing would never fly with modern audiences.

Man Pedro Pascal really is in everything!

The heat vision part is quite like T-Rex in Jurassic Park. Of course in general also the theme park where attractions go rogue. I can see how he reuses ideas.

Predator used the infrared vision and Terminator used the destroyed cyborg rising from the dead and coming back to attack. Cool to see how this movie influenced ones that came after. Great clip.

I only had a passing recollection of this movie when I watched the HBO series – that’s why I was so thrown off by the identify if the man in black.

Yul Brynner doing Arnie before Arnie. The film was PG. I think it would have been better going full R, but it was a different time.
Don’t get the complaints about pacing. Tik tok brains.

If you want another “way ahead of its time” Crichton movie thriller that is stunningly relevant today, check out LOOKER from 1981.
LOOKER predicted the rise of AI, CGI, and DerpFakes -and how they can be used by media and other nefarious forces in clever, sinister ways….
Love this movie. Waaaay ahead of its time. And very underrated.
Michael Crichton had so many good ideas. Books, movies.

I was watching this a few years back, and realized the whole time I literally was on the edge of my seat…be kept following him and wouldn’t stop, reminded me of that Black Mirror episode where the robot dog kept chasing that woman, no matter where she went it would always find her. Metalhead was name of episode.
